has no one seen it?
i see all sorts of discussion and buzz for all the other oscar nominated films, but nada about the reader! just saw it yesterday, and i thought it was fantastic! i was actually surprised by how good it was. i think perhaps we all see it as 'another holocaust movie' and thus why many aren't as excited/interested in seeing it....but with ralph fiennes and kate winslet, i knew it would be good....and it did not disappoint! excellent performances all around, and the story and filming, really well done. sure, a downer flick....but it is really, really good.

we saw slumdog millionaire on saturday, and that was such a feel-good movie, really well done...but honestly, i think the reader is a superior film. out of all the oscar nominated films, i still have the curious case of benjamin button at number one, but right now id put the reader right behind it.

if you haven't seen it....go see it!

to be honest, the thought of Kate Winslet and Ralph Fiennes in ANOTHER war movie  well, I feel like I've seen it before.
    The Astoria??? Orgazmic!
    Verona??? it's all surmountable
Dublin 23.08.06 "The beauty of Ireland, right there!"
    Wembley? We all believe!
Copenhagen?? your light made us stars
    Chicago 07? And love
    What a different life

I hope to see this over the weekend.
The only war movie I remember Kate Winslet being in was Enigma.

I thought it was based on some novel about sexual harassment.

i'm going to guess you wouldn't like it....but for others, to be fair...it is NOT 'another war movie' at ALL. it's a first love story, and yes, it is a bit of a war crime story, courtroom scenes and such...but a love story first and foremost, and about shame, regret, longing, etc. it IS excellent.

as i said, for me, it comes in 2nd after benjamin button of the oscar contenders.

I read the book about 3 years ago.
I'll watch the film in about 2 years time after people have stopped talking about it.

So i checked out the reader tonight and i thought it was pretty good. I can see why it is getting a lot of award nominations it was very well done. Some great acting for sure.

Probably not my favorite movie of the year but a powerful story. It got me thinking about life a bit which for me is always a good thing in a movie.
