Geez. A 23 year old smoking a bong is big news? His alcohol related offense is 10x worse, and makes him a much bigger dumbass, than a little pot.

Yeah, he should definitely be more careful about it, considering his career.

Can anybody honestly say it's a surprise? I admit there is a bit of a shock, but the dude is/was a spoiled rich kid that hasn't had anything to do besides swim and eat 10000 calories a day, since he was 12.

Pot penalties are getting less harsh, alcohol harsher.

I would rather have a pic, of me smokin a bong, spread all over the world, than a dui.

I'm not sayin the pic isn't him, but it could be a guy that just looks like him. I'm sure we'll find out in due time.

EDIT: to get technical, according to the comments under the article(and its backed by multiple people) at least, having "personal use" amounts isn't illegal in Columbia, SC and he isn't smoking anything in the pic.

The underage DUI had no impact on endorsement deals, I doubt this will either.

Hope they got plenty of money for taking and selling the pic and the story... cos they'll have no fucking karma for a while.

Ay, but Kate Moss isn't an olympic athlete. Very different fields, the modelling world and proffessional sports

I want to buy the rights to that photo and run a few tv commercials... they're going to have that photo, and there will be subtext talking about his diet, his work out, his gold medal wins, and his rigorous training regimen. It's going to run after every single one of those ridiculous "truth" commercials about how pot automatically makes you a loser. And then at the end it will say "He's doing ok... maybe our drug laws need a reality check?"
