Yeah I have saw it twice in the past three weeks.
An amazing film, astonishing how Jamal relates his experiences to anwersing the questions.
I agree if peeps haven't seen it go see it.

  • I saw it this last weekend and loved it. Great soundtrack too. I really liked the older brother's character. While I have a great deal of empathy for people who make "bad" choices in BAD situations, the young brother reminds me that you ALWAYS have a choice, a choice to do the right thing.
    Great movie!
Got to love the Bollywood bit at the end too... ha ha

  • I thought it was very good while i was watching it... but looking at this thread, i was struggling to remember what happened in the film... which to me, isn't a sign of a GREAT film... it was good and enjoyable and i'd definitely recommend it, but it's not great.

I saw it last week - I think it is one of the best films for the year and should win the Oscar. It was very sad and joyful in the end. A must see.

It IS one of the best films of the year... which for ME makes it a very unmemorable year for films  I'm hoping that maybe i haven't seen the film that blows the rest of them away... cos slumdog was good... maybe even very good... but to be scooping best film? well that's just a very bad year.

Yes, it was very slim picking for the movies this year- I was disappointed.
compared to the rest- its top notch. I did not fall asleep during the movie- which I've done a lot- so it ranks high with me.

:D oh absolutely... me too... I DID think it was great while i was watching it and thought i must tell everyone to watch it.. but i judge films on whether they stick with me or not... if they leave me thinking, it's a great film IMO... otherwise it's just an entertaining film that passed a nice couple of hours. The only one i haven't seen is benjamin button... so maybe that's the one for me :?

do you mean for the upcoming oscars?? Or for last years oscars? Cos I DO think no country for old men was a GREAT film... and I've seen it twice and the odd time it still pops into my head... I think it will pass the time test

what happened to burn after reading though? Not an obvious oscar film but it was one of my faves of the year... the last line still makes me laugh when i remember it.

Slumdog got 10 noms. I don't know about Burn after reading. Burn didn't get that many good reviews.

  • Am I the only one who thinks that this movie is completely overrated? I mean it's an ok movie but honestly it's not as good as everyone says. I mean it seems like the way the movie was written the writer just made up millionaire questions and wrote small vignettes for each. Some of the scenarios were so contrived. I mean in a way it was reminiscent of usual suspects but not quite as interesting. And was it just me or was the entire love story completely cliche? I really don't know why this movie is getting so much praise. That's just my two cents.

    It's based on the novel Q & A.

I agree with you! I thought it was good... but if I'd just seen this without hearing anything about it, there's no WAY I'd guess it got nominated for any oscars, never mind millions.

See, I disagree with you Helen. I saw it before all the hype got attached and loved it! It's a fantastic ride through some incredible stories and excellent cinematography. When I saw it, it didn't feel like an Oscar nominated film, but it was one of my favorites of the year for sure. It's predictable what's going to happen at the end, but the ride it takes you on is fan-fucking-tastic. It takes you on an emotional roller-coaster that brings you down to the deep depths of sadness and rises you up to the great hopefulness of love at the end. I loved the movie.

Me neither Hel. But the kids were cute. So the movie should've stopped just before the kids turned into adolescents, definitely before the brothers got all aggro. Would've made a very strange short film that made no sense, but still better than what it became.

I guess it affected me because I've been to the slums of Manila and the slums of the countryside of the Philippines and seeing the slums of Mumbai represented on the big screen hit home with me as they're very similar.

 possibly... I dunno... it really was GOOD... but just good... for it to win best picture shows what a shite year for movies it was... rachel getting married was MUCH better, doubt was better, even gran torino was better. The choices were kinda odd this year... all very hollow.

Slumdog reminded me of Once... both were very simple films. Basically a straightforward love story. But they were both so heartfelt and well executed and gave such a fun little twist to a tired old story, that you couldn't help but enjoy the ride. They were both flawlessly executed. Slumdog was a great movie. Maybe not the best, but I have no problem with it winning. It's going to hold up better than fucking Titanic.
