The way it's being talked about here it's like some government documents just became unclassfied. Apparently the term A-Fraud is used to describe a certain third baseman. That apparently is big news because I mean who knew that some people don't like him.... Here's an exceprt:

It's definitely on my reading list. I just wonder why Torre decided to write a book like this. I mean he doesn't need the money and it just seems like something that was better kept a secret. Unless his plans were to cause more chaos to the Yanks in which case I wholeheartedly agree with him releasing this book. ;)

I think those answers will come out next week. I think he's making the rounds to discuss the book. I knew about the book since last year when it came up on Amazon when I searched for books on the Yankees. I will definitely read it. I've always like Torre and always got the feeling that he was uneasy his last few years with the Yankees and if the contents in this book are as explosive as being portrayed, then nobody should be surprised. He's human after all and even with the salary, the front office did not make it easy for him. Of course you can say hey this is New York, comes with the territory, but that doesn't make it right.

I agree pretty much with everything you said. But tell all books in sports locker rooms with current athletes and coaches just seems a little taboo to me.

I really enjoyed Boys Will Be Boys about the 90's Cowboys and I think the fact that none of them are still active helped me go into that book with an open mind. I think the fact that the drama in New York is still playing out makes the book too soon. But I'll see after I read it.

That's true, but the era of what stays in the locker room stays there kind of went out the window with the publication of books like "Ball Four" and the "Bronx Zoo". I agree that it's too soon, especially since a number of key figures are still with the Yankees but chances are book or no book, some of this stuff might have eventually emerged anyways.

I agree it would have come out sooner than later, but it would have been better if it was after Joe retired.

It's next on my sports reading list after I finish The Bad Guys Won - the story of the 86 Mets.

If anything, Torre can be perceived as being hypocritical considering his belief of keeping things in the clubhouse. But I guess his belief in that changed when he didn't accept the incentive laden offer from Yankee brass in October 2007.

i hear larry bowa said not to take the a-fraud nickname too seriously... bowa is saying that his "closest teammate friends" would call him that but in a joking matter, that they just kinda had fun with it.
