What would you do?

Youre out eating and Ed and Mike sit down 2 tables down from you to eat. Would you go over to them and introduce yourself? Maybe slide him your demo tape, ask for autograph, tell him ben harper is trying to ride your coat-tails, or maybe just leave them alone?

    Been in similar situation with others in the band and they where with their family so I just left them alone - best thing to do I think.

    SHOW COUNT: (164) 1990's=3, 2000's=53, 2010/20's=108, US=118, CAN=15, Europe=20 ,New Zealand=4, Australia=5
    Mexico=1, Colombia=1

  • I would buy them a drink....then leave them alone. I was in a similiar situation where a famous boxer...Pernell Whitaker was eating in a restraunt a table or two away with his friends. Being a huge boxing fan I still left him alone. Many people were asking for autographs and eventually he asked the manager to help him. The manager kept everyone else out of the room we were in...except for my wife and I. It was pretty cool bc it was like we were having dinner with them after everyone left.

    be casual, wait untill i can see they are relaxed and finished, before leaving, go and introduce myself and express my gratitue...
    we don't want war, but we still want more?
  • when i was in college i was friends with the star of the basketball team and people were always saying hi to him as they passed by in the halls and he would say hi back. i asked if he knew the people and he said no, they were just 'hi' friends. since then i love to say hi to people like i know them. it can be very funny when they are trying to figure out where they know you from.

    I'd just leave them alone. I've been in a similar situation. I was eating lunch at a place called "Mama's" in North Beach, San Francisco, and Carlos Santana came in and sat down with his son for a meal. The place was pretty dead so there was certainly the opportunity to introduce myself. However, he's there to eat a meal with his son so I know I wouldn't want to be bothered if I were him -- so I ate my meal and left. A couple years I actually did have the opportunity to meet him before a show when he performed for some Hendrix tribute show at the Warfield. He's a really decent, nice guy. I'm glad I didn't introduce myself or ask for an autograph or picture at that restaurant.
    Rock on!

    I would certainly say hi, and thank him for his work. I have talked with Jeff several times, one time with Ed. Jeff actually recognizes me now, which is cool. Ed did not say anything, just smiled and yes, shook my hand....I think as Eddie Vedder, he understands now that he will be recognized and approached if in public. The funny thing though, is that outside of an aftershow encounter, how many people have actually seen Ed in public casually? That guy is about as elusive and private as a famous person can be...

    if they were with their families, as i walked out I would casually say, 'OH MY GOSH, IT'S EDDIE FUCKING VEDDER!!! QUICK SOMEONE GET ME A FRIGGIN' PEN SO HE CAN SIGN MY LEFT BUTTCHEEK!!" You know, i wouldn't want to cause a scene!

    That's classic! I would buy them a round. Then, if Eddie or whomever it was practiced proper etiquette, they would come over to thank me. I would then say hello, love your music and excuse myself to leave.

    I met Jim James in the elevator at the Hard Rock Hotel in Chicago during Lolla. It was just me and him. I asked him why he cut his hair(A: for the special occasion of playing with the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra @ Lolla) and told him that it would be my first time seeing them live and I hope to hear Dancefloors. He said thanks and that he would make sure they played it. As he was getting off at his floor, he said that he hoped I was sticking around for PJ......and then he saw my shirt and started laughing.

    I would leave them alone if they were trying to eat dinner. I would probably thank them for their music were I to bump into them at a show or something.

    I did meet Mike and Stone backstage at an Alice in Chains show a LONG time ago before Ten got big. I knew who they were and loved MLB and Ten but was so stoned I coudn't think of anything to say LOL. So I just stood there and nodded my head while everyone around me had an intelligent conversation.

    If you're not going to leave people eating the fuck alone you might as well just walk over with your fork and say "you gonna eat that?"
