Expect 1,000-year climate impacts, "experts" say

I stopped reading the article after these two sentences.

"Instead, the team concluded, warming tied to higher CO2 "is largely irreversible for 1,000 years after emissions stop. Climate change is slow, but it is unstoppable" said Solomon, a researcher at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Earth System Research Laboratory in Boulder, Colo." http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28861757/

It is kind of a contradiction to say that climate change is slow and largely irreversible, when supposedly it only took us a few decades to lead to a 1,000 years of warming. What a joke. Scientists need to stop guessing to grab headlines.

What they know a 100 years from now will be a lot more than what they know now, just like what was known a 100 years ago pales in consideration to the amount of knowledge now. Right now they guess that CO2 emissions would cause a 1,000 year cycle. That is a guess. They cannot prove it. To say that climate change is this huge beast that cannot be reversed and is slow to change, and then to say at the same time that 40 years of human activity caused this 1,000 year climate change does not correlate.

Scientists like to believe that they know what the earth was like 1,000,000 years ago. They like to believe that they know what is going to happen 1,000 years from now. They can guess, but that is all it is. They can try to make an educated guess. But don't throw it out as fact. They thought there was global cooling happening just 10-20 years ago. Now it is global warming. I wonder what it will be in 20 years?

.. perhaps a global cancer epidemic since humans are too greedy when it comes to pretty much anything.

what we are is the sum of a thousand lives...what we know is almost nothing at all.

no offense. and seriously I mean that...no offense. but I'm taking someone who spends his days studying this very subject over yours. that's it. I"m behind the people spend their lives over the few people in the news and the few people on this board,,,I take their opinion over yours.

and the consensus has been that humans are fucking up this planet. I'm going with that.

I agree we need to stop polluting, but that is a huge contradiction in the article saying that somehow the climate is so slow to change that it would take a 1,000 years to slow down the warming, and then claim it only took us 40 years to to change the climate. If we can change the climate for the next 1,000 years in a matter of decades, why can't we reverse it, or why can't the earth reverse it on its own somehow (it has done it before!).
