Any "advanced" search functionality? Thread subscriptions?

To my eyes, there is no way to subscribe to a thread, nor is there any advanced search functionality. I searched "YIELD" one day and no threads came up. I searched "NCAA basketball" this morning b/c I want to talk about the Louisville victory over Syracuse, and nothing came up. Surely I'm doing something wrong?
Do you remember Rock & Roll Radio?

    search doesn't work very well.
