The Best Movie Trilogies

After having a super lazy weekend and watching the extended edition trilogy of Lord of the Rings I came to the belief that it may be the greatest of all trilogies. So, I am curious what may be considered the best for others on the forum? My only criteria is that each of the three movies has to be excellent, having two out of the three doesn't cut it. Here are some of my thoughts.

1. Lord of the Rings
2. Original Star Wars
3. Jason Bourne Trilogy
4. Indiana Jones Trilogy (yes, I liked Temple of Doom)
5. The Man with No Name Trilogy

Just missing the cut were....

1. The Godfather (first two were exceptional, last one not so much)
2. Star Wars episodes 1-3 (take away Jar Jar binks and the overusage of CGI and its actually pretty good)
3. X-men (X-3 was terrible)
4. Terminator Trilogy
5. Pirates of the Caribbean
6. Back to the Future
7. Die Hard

Pirates of the Caribbean was a good movie, but it sucked as a trilogy. Both of the sequels were so bad it's painful.

But I agree LOTR cannot be beat for consistency in a trilogy. There were no noticeable weaknesses or dips in quality. Star Wars (original) is close behind. I also dig the Bourne trilogy and the Indiana Jones trilogy (I like Temple as well).

I've got the No Name trilogy due up on my netflix this week.

Definately The Godfather for me, although I can only watch all 3 once every 5 years.
Back to the Future is a close second.
Oh, and how could you forget Austin Powers?!
He who forgets will be destined to remember.

    1. Indiana Jones: When I was a kid growing up, all the kids had Star Wars. I had Indy. Funny enough, I've watched two of the four movies today (Skull, Temple).
    2. Godfather
    3. Star Wars
    4. Lord of the Rings
    5. Back to the Future

I am on board with the LotR. To coin of phrase they are the one Trilogy to rule them all :D

oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

The first two Lethal Weapon movies were great....after that...not so much. My vote goes to LOTR, as someone else mentioned there was no drop in quality among any of those three movies. The original Star Wars trilogy (IV-VI) is a very, very close second.
All the world will be your enemy, Prince with a thousand enemies, and whenever they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you, digger, listener, runner, prince with the swift warning. Be cunning and full of tricks and your people shall never be destroyed.

True, but I like when "The Ecstasy of Gold" plays during the movie more. That piece of music just fits that scene so well.

I was underwhelmed with it. When I heard Kevin Smith had written a scene like that, I was pretty excited... much as I love LOTR, there's plenty of material there for ridicule and parody. But it was pretty lame I thought... just not very funny.
