A Jealous Canadian

I am extremely envious of the Americans, your new president is inspirational and seems willing to lead without laying to much fault at the feet of the previous administration (at least publicly). Whether you agree with his policies or not you seem like you have a good inspirational leader, congratulation.

Here in Canada we have 4 main parties and neither one could run a 1 car funeral, so sad for us.

    Yeah true, I sometimes think the guy you had the last 8 years was better than anything we've got. The people we get never want to talk broad based tax cuts for the middle class. Hell Americans already pay the lowest taxes in the western world and your new president will probably have some form of tax cuts for the middle class in the upcoming stimulus package. No matter what any politician in Canada of any political party says they all enjoy taxing the middle class to death. My wife and I are middle class and are sick of being taxed the way they do. Fuck em, they should have to live off a reasonable budget like the rest, if they can't do that, thats there problem, run a deficit I don't care jut leave the middle class wallet's alone.

    haha...EXACTLY what i was thinking while reading the first post! :D yes, it's good news today, but horrors for the past 8.....so LONG overdue i'd say! besides, we will be paying for these last 8 years worth of inept decisions, literally and figurately, for gawd knows how long..

    I think all Canadians are pretty much jealous of all Americans.

    Well, we are a little jealous of the smart Americans making lots of those American greenbacks across the border. I have a name for smart Americans: transplanted Canadians.

    agreed!
    i can't imagine canadians, or anyone really...being *jealous* of living in america. of course, sure, people who live in impoverished conditions, etc, sure....altho we have poverty as well, we are not immune. hell, canada has a LOT going for it, i surely imagine most of it's citizens are quite HAPPY to live there. sure, there are always things to find fault with no matter where you live.....but that doesn't mean you're jealous, or would choose to live somewhere else, etc. i don't get that at all.

    Give it a little time, and he may be your leader too!

    See: Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America
    or, North American Union

    My friend is an American citizen, but has been living abroad the last 4 or 5 years of his life. Most recently Japan for 2 years, and now Taiwan. Anyway, he's home on break for the next month, and is doing tax returns for Jackson Hewitt. We were eating lunch the other day, and he brought up the North American Union to me, which I thought was funny, since he hasn't even lived here for quite a while. He went on to tell me about part of the tax code that allows you to claim dependents that are only temporary residents of CANADA or MEXICO. Here is the email he wrote me, which includes the actual text of the code:
    =============================

    Here is the tax law that I was telling you about:

    To meet the requirements for claiming a dependent, there are 3 tests.
    DEPENDENCY TEST-- the dependent cannot be claimed as a dependent by anyone else
    JOINT RETURN TEST-- the dependent must not be filing a joint return
    RESIDENCY TEST-- The taxpayer must have been a resident of the US, CANADA, OR MEXICO for at least 2 months during the tax year

    Example question:
    Would a citizen of Turkey who lived in Mexico for 2 months during the year meet the residency test?

    Answer: YES

    Seems to be the beginnings of the greater north american union
    ========================

    Have I misinterpreted something here? What is the meaning of this?

    It is usually Lost. Most aren't aware that there is another country on the planet let alone the continent.

    Good comeback though.

    Canadian politics will just make you wonder. I mean you got our PM who is a conservative that has made very little progress on tax reductions for the middle class, the liberals who prefer tax and spent ( except during the chretian and martin years then is was cut money from the provinces and spend, and the ndp lead by jack laten who thinks he is canada's obama.

    I hope he does well, everyone should hope he succeeds, if he succeeds then that will be good for the world. I just wish we had an inspirational leader that could inspire, but I see none on the horizon.
