$77?????? its £75/$150 for me to book it online! how does that priceline thing work and how do i know i will end up at the right hotel? it seems silly me paying nearly double when it can be had for that price!
    all help greatly appreciated, thanks

Just to elaborate on Priceline ... you don't KNOW which hotel you will get. You bid on a star-level and a region. so, in this case, you bid on Tampa-downtown and 3-star. if your bid is accepted, you'll get one of a group of hotels that fit that description. Seems like if you bid right now and bid in the $70US range, you'll get that Riverwalk.

You can also check out this site:
    http://www.biddingfortravel.com

It lists every region and then tells you which hotels are offered on Priceline in each star level in that region. That way, you'll know that if you don't get the Riverwalk, you'll get either hotel, A, B or C. Make sense?

If you need some help, send me a PM and i will help you out.

aah nice one, so it will at least let you know what you might get before paying for it then? it'll be nice to save a bit of money lately rather than just spend spend spend.....:) ;)

so just to clarify, as long as i tick the 3 star option for tampa downtown i will end up in a 3 star place and not end up in the howard johnson plaza that only costs £50 a night anyway???? just wanna check before committing to this new fangled idea on booking hotels :D

edit* sorry, i started this reply before your good explanation above, i aint that much of an idiot where i have to ask all this again!!! haha, not THAT much of one anyway :D

I got it on priceline last monday.
    75$

Looks like we may have a party hotel?

Maybe if someone is doing a CCFA, this may be a good spot, its only .5 miles from the show.

I just pricelined and also got the Sheraton Tampa Riverwalk...It came to $100.17 with taxes, so not as cheap as some of you got, but better than the HoJo I has booked!!

I actually just stayed there about a month ago. It was plenty nice, and if your on the 6th floor, u get free happy hour beer and hot snacks between 4-6. The area was fine although there isn't much going on. There is a nice sports bar a bout 2 blocks way, or take a cab to "The Rack" if u want to drink with the beautiful people.

    Not really actually :)

Up until about a year ago it was not available to Canadians.

BUT ... if you entered a fake American home address it would work as long as you used a Mastercard. I think VISA does an automatic check to your home address/billing address on the CC when transactions are processed. Mastercard does not (at least they did not about a year or two ago).

So, I would just make up an American address, use my Mastercard and get rooms :) Worked like a charm, about 10 times. The hotels don't care. The reservation is paid for and once you show up they just give you the room.

That might still work for Europeans ...

for the sake of $50 i dont wanna risk it going wrong! i'll just pay £69 on a normal site, when ive already spent over £1000 whats another £69 hey ;)

i just wont eat for two days when im in orlando and it should even itself out :D

It's honestly foolproof :) Worked for me AT LEAST 10 times.

here is some more info for you. If you bid on Downtown Tampa, these are the hotels you could get:

    3 Star
Westin Harbour Island Hotel (formerly Wyndham)
    Hyatt Regency Tampa
    Marriott Waterside LINK
Sheraton Tampa Riverwalk (formerly Radisson Riverwalk)

The are all nice hotels. Personally, I wanted the Waterside, but I am happy with the Riverwalk :)

i have a visa and not a mastercard too, doh! not to worry, thanks for the tips anyhow ;)

    RE: Priceline...

I first entered $65...it was declined, but gave me the option of adding $17 to it and it would be accepted. So, it was $82 plus tax.

ive just tried it via the uk site and my offer of £35 was rejected and now it will only let me try again if i change my search criteria! ive mailed them to see if this will be reset to try again later with the same details, i dont wanna try again in another place or i will probs end up miles away in a right shit hole! :D

are you staying by yourself in the room??
    my advice:

    1. if you're staying with someone, have them try again, or try with their CC info.
    2. if you're staying alone, maybe someone else is going solo and you can share the room, split costs...

You have to wait 24 hours and then you can bid again.

So exactly 24 hours from the time your bid was rejected, you can try again at a higher price. Don't panic, just wait till tomorrow :)

There are ways to re-bid right now but they are far too complicated to explain to you over the Message Pit :)

Woo Hoo i used my wifes card and logged on as her and got the sheraton for £47.84, so roughly $88 including taxes and charges what have ya! :D

Thats still cheaper than the howard johnson i had almost resigned myself to just booking normally, and nearly £30 less than booking the sheraton through elsewhere. All in all im happy its sorted now at last!!!

    thanks for all your help

No problem! I'm happy to see it all worked out for you.

That's the beauty of Priceline. You end up with a really nice hotel for a cheaper price than the Howard Johnson. :) You can't go wrong, really.

Just be careulf if you are ever travelling with more than 2 people because you aren't guaranteed a certain bed type. So you may end up with 4 people and 1 king sized bed. Priceline rooms are only supposed to be for 2 adults anyway though :)

In the words of the great Hannibal Smith, "i love it when a plan comes together" thanks again buddy :D

AND ive just checked another website out of curiosity to see how much ive actually saved and even though i thought it was £75 on that site it was actually £86.60 with taxe, its even more fun now!!!

I live next to the venue and the Sheraton Riverwalk is decent... the Mariott is VERY nice and a short walk to the venue.

Usually when they make those counter-offers to you, it means that you could have bid less than the counter and still got the room.

In your case, the counter off of $82 means you likely could have got the room for $70-$75 had you waited a day and re-bid. But maybe the $10 is not a big deal to you and you just wanted to secure the room :)

Priceline can be very complicated, but once you figure it out, it is pretty simple :)

Yeah, you're probably right...I just wanted to be done with it!! I'm so excited for this show :-)
