Places to Stay and Things to do near Manchester

My wife and I are going to travel up toward the Manchester area with our 2 yr. old daughter this spring just to get away and I'm wondering if there are any places people would recommend staying. Things to do? places to visit? I was checking out Weirs Beach/ Lake Winnipesaukee, but am starting to think that this might not be a good place to go in the spring. Suggestions????
