I am going to say Godfather 2 followed by Godfather 1, even though they are the obvious ones.

i don't consider the last 2 to be 'gangster' movies... as good a movies as they are. thats just me though :)
Godfather 1 Godfather 2 Once Upon A time in America Goodfellas Casino Mean Streets Donnie Brasco Untouchables American Gangster The Departed Scarface and last but not least Bugsy Malone ;)
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

well i suppose they kinda are in a way... all deal with the same subject matter of organised crime, families, loyalty, etc... as well as killing.

but a movie like Donnie Brasco is slightly different as its from the cop's perspective.

all good picks thus far....especially Reservoir Dogs, The Departed and American Gangster, two real faves.....but within the genre, all mentioned are so good. don't forget Road to Perdition, really well done....ad one of the last great roles for Paul Newman.
    Stay with me...

I really like the Departed, i think it's the best gangsta movie in the last little while. I AINT DA RAT!

All time fave would have to go to Reservoir Dogs and Casino.

I've always wanted to see Angels with Dirty Faces, but can't find it. I just finished reading a book on Sing Sing and it was filmed there.

The lack of capital letters and a poorly placed space gave it away ;)

@ Restlesssoul - True Romance was a bit of a gangster movie, and was very kick assish.

If Scarface counts, then most criminal movies would count I think. So I say:

    True Romance
    Godfather I&II
    Gangs of New York
    Departed
    Miller's Crossing

American Gangster and Road to Perdition were pretty good too.

    My all-time favs though:

    Usual Suspects
    City of God
