WELL...

Been looking into these 2 side bands, featuring PJs own Matt Cameron and Ben Shepherd from Soundgarden, John McBain, etc.

Hater's got 2 records, Wellwater Conspiracy's got 4...

I haven't heard any of the aforementioned material. So I'm curious, who has some Hater and/or Wellwater Conspiracy records? Who has heard songs/music by either of these groups? I am very interested to hear some opinions on this 'cuz I'm strongly considering ordering some. Please give your input if you can. 'Preciate it. :)

  • I don't have any Hater but I do own some Wellwater Conspiracy. They are really hard to categorize.
Sometimes they'll sound really sixties-ish pop or really grungy. There's also a lot of instrumental stuff with AWESOME drums!!!!!
I would definitely invest in some if I were you. Matt is a really good singer and songwriter.
  • I had the first Hater record awhile ago.

Here's some Hater from Youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7McFl58eIg

Definitely check out the first Hater record, it's one of THE great undiscovered classic albums

  • Thanks for the responses.

What would you say Hater is comparable to? Soundgarden?

And Wellwater...are they grungy as well? Psychedelic or prog rock? Heavy metal?

I agree with the rest...too tough to categorize. I have the first Hater, and all Wellwater has put out. If you are a Pearl Jam/Soundgarden fan, I think it's safe to say you will enjoy these records. They are all very good, IMO.

The Scroll and Its Combinations even has a track with Ed on vocals. This reminds me I need to find the second Hater disc.

    Attention Matt Cameron--more Wellwater please!!

I just got The self titled album from WWC and its pretty good. It isn't anything incredible, its just typical cool side project stuff like Jeff's album. The best songs IMO are Wimple Witch, Night Sky, the two electronic songs, and Sullen Glacier. One thing I must say though: As good as the drumming is in Sullen Glacier, I really don't like it (the drumming) . It sounds like he's trying to be Jimmy Chamberlin for that song, it doesn't sound too much like his style. Who knows, maybe its just the drum sound and amount of rimshots he does in the song.

That's cool. I really, really like Jeff's solo album though, so I will be looking into these albums.

I have to grab these albums and give them a listen. The only song I've heard is "Felicity's Surprise" :D

I love Felicity's surprise - Wellwater are great, well worth a listen. Would be nice to see a Wellwater song performed live!

  • I have Wellwater's self titled disc & Declaration of Conformity; both are interesting listens but not what I consider "heavy rotation" records. Have heard almost nada of Hater.
"Hello Oregonians. Hello Washingtonians. Hello Portland..where the fuck are we? We're in Ridgefield!"
  • Wellwater Conspiracy are fuckin awesome. Cameron is a beast!

Here's a clip from when they were on Letterman.

Hater's first album is getting a reissue on CD and it's being put on wax for the first time.

I've been listening to Hater a lot recently (Down Undershoe is actually playing as I type this!) Such a great album.

This thread getting bumped has reminded me to dig out my Wellwater CDs too - thanks :)
