Seriously... They couldn't have done this 'party' for under 10 million? This shit blows my mind.

I've never understood how corporations pay lobbyists millions of dollars either... Where does it all go? How can anyone justify spending millions of dollars to get laws passed?

Do you know how much money is pouring into local businesses as a result? I don't, but for all those people standing in the cold, how many of them will just stop by the local bookstore for something to read while waiting, or how many will stop by the local cafe for something to keep them warm. 400,000 were at the mall just this Sunday for the concerts. There are concerts galore tomorrow, and imagine the numbers just for the parade!

Say 1million out-of-towners come into DC for the event. I heard an estimate of about 1 million people to see the parade. Say about 500,000 are out-of-towners who stay at least 2 days. Residents are subletting their DC apartments, and are making a bundle. Just look on Craigslist. Hotels are filled during the coldest time of the year. Then figure that the out-of-towners will eat out breakfast, lunch, dinner, or shop at local groceries. Also, figure all of the new exhibits at the Smithsonian as a result of the inauguration, and how many people will see this exhibit more than any other January day. All of the souvenirs to be sold! Holy cow :o

DC businesses/entrepreneurs are happy. I would be surprised if they are not making more than 150 million total more than usual this time of year. Taxes on hotels, food (10%), go back to the government. Metro rail is part of the government.

One hand washes the other here, DC businesses are very happy with the visitor's to the city. Everything will be different including the cost of the Inaugurals so PARTY ON! Some may say this is money wasted but with our government we find ways to throw away money but at least this way you can have a drink or two and DANCE.

it's so tiring reading/hearing that anyone who supported/supports obama is sheep, think he's the messiah, etc.

it IS a historic moment, on so many levels. looking forward to watching it today at work, with the firm's blessing.

    nice!

i've just thought, in order to sort out this global financial crisis... they shouldnt be bailing out banks and stuff... the governments should have ginormous parties... everyone's a winner then. :)

No shit... great point 150 million is chump change when compared to what kind of money Bush has flushed down the drain the past 8 years.

On another point the Messiah name is already old... people need to come up with something new to say.

This is a huge argument for government bailouts/handouts/takeovers in general. Let's just have the government buy everything that's on the shelf anywhere in America and pull us out of the recession immediately!

I'm being facetious. Those criticizing the cost of this should be fair though - I believe every 1st inauguration has cost more than the one before it.
