I'm sure the next PJ single / album will be a million times better than U2's one. God, I hate this band...

edit: I didn't know the word "appalling". I checked and I think it represents U2 quite well

If you don't like U2, why would you like this? I don't think it's that bad, but I like U2's latest releases.
If Pearl Jam were to release this exact song, only with Ed's voice, you'd all love it. We're all Pearl Jam apologists.

i think it is just ok after one listen. it lacks that huge chorus or hook that U2 singles usually have. the edge sounds good, i like the heavy distorted guitar a la discotech, but other than that pretty middle of the road for U2 standards...nothing soaring about this song.

Apart from the vaguely interesting bridge/chorus section, it's dross. This is one of the worst things they've ever done.

I'm a sucker for a good rock riff and this song has a pretty decent rock riff. The bassline is not too shabby either.
Overall, the song is hardly grounbreaking and a rather confusing first single. Don't get me wrong...It's cool that they are trying new things and all, but it's painfully obvious that U2 are out of their element. I think it's a desperate attempt to sound like a modern rock band.

I think someone in the band has been listening to alot of Queens of the Stone Age and Eagles of Death Metal...as this guitar riff is totally derivitive of that style...unfortunately it's a style that does not suit U2 at all.

Yeah sounds like they just added the drums from Miami in there. Nothing special for sure. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and buy the album because i'm sure there's going to be some good stuff on it.

It would be extremely dissapointing to hear a crappy song like this with Ed's voice. This also reminds me of what an intelligent lady once said:

Meh.. I like U2, especially their early stuff. Their new stuff is hit or miss with me. A little boring. They need bolder music. It may grow on me, or maybe the rest of the album will strike a chord.

EDIT: After a second listen, I kind of like it better.

i'm really liking this as a first single. Its got a groove, and a bit of grit, something their last two albums lacked entirely with a couple of exceptions

I was looking forward for the new CD, but this is rather disappointing. Bono's vocals sound feeble.

The Edge made me love U2. His vocals, guitar playing. Now I really listen.

Yah, I think the new single is awful too. Now, I'm not one of those who immediately puts down anything they release. I'm not a big fan, but I quite like a lot of their stuff. But this thing is just terrible.

I'll never shoot down a song or band for trying something new...I couldn't be a Neil Young fan if I did...

I'm not sure where it will fit in their catalog of songs. I think I'm having the same response that I did when Vertigo came out...luke warm

I heard it today, sounded bland, but to be fair that's not the first time I've thought that about a U2 song on first listen and gone on to love it.
I'll give it time, maybe it's a grower. They know what theyre doing....apart from that Europop shit in the early 90's....Lemon....WTF? That was just misguided.
    I came, I saw, I concurred.....

Lemon blew away mostly everthing that had been released on the last 2 albums, I find U2 fans usually fit into 2 camps, those who want the classic anthemic stuff and probably started crying when they first heard Achtung Baby then almost did a header when Zooropa came out and those who want them to experiment and do something different instead of anthems all the time.

I got into U2 through Achtung and Zooropa and prefer that to the Joshua Tree like era, I like it but not the same, I find people who tend to proclaim that their best work was the early albums wind me up and say they are shit now because they're not doing Sunday Bloody Sunday or I will Follow, bands progress and U2 certainly did that more than most bands of the last 25 years.

I'd rather hear a bit of experimentation than all this samey anthemic bollocks all the time, I know it's what made them but times change and they are not fucking Oasis.
  • That sucked.
