Just downloaded it this morning on my iPhone and it's been on repeat. The song is awesome, I would describe it as I late 60's psychedelic..meets 90's techno..with a full piping HOT cup of U2...and twist of 21st century flavor!

Can't wait for March 3rd baby!

Does it cost money? Can you listen to it without downloading? I hate this trend of releasing new music to people's fucking PHONES... what the hell is this universe coming to?

Escape Club "Wild, Wild West". Period.

The tune's a little busy; like, in their effort to sound edgy (not EDGE-y) they threw everything at the soundboard to see what sticks and a lot stuck. The fuzz on the bass is great and never a bad thing,The Edge is awake and Larry drumming is good and raw. The lyrics are solid, too. It's good (not great), gritty, and a return to better guitar rock for them. 3.5 out of 5.

And it makes me look forward to the rest of the album in March.

  • I have a good feeling about the new album. It sounds like they are experimenting but keeping the classic U2 sound.

Going further back, Elvis Costello's "Pump It Up".

Even the packaging of this album looks interesting. I don't waste my time on deluxe editions from anybody, not even Pearl Jam; I'm just not that interested in all of that extraneous stuff that has nothing to do with the sound. But I might go for it with this album,

    just heard it
    and

i think it is just ok after one listen. it lacks that huge chorus or hook that U2 singles usually have. the edge sounds good, i like the heavy distorted guitar a la discotech, but other than that pretty middle of the road for U2 standards...nothing soaring about this song.

That's true. I HATED the first single off Modest Mouse's last album when I first heard it. But hearing it in context on the album made a huge difference and I ended up loving the album.

The single sounds good. Nothing mind-blowing, but I'll take middle-of-the-road U2 over most bands any day of the week.

Thoughts so far - not that impressed, but thats usually a good sign for me, things i like instantly i generally get tired of. No matter how much rubbish they release, I will always buy new U2. Their back catalogue is amazing, so anything new they have to offer, deserves a few minutes of my time.

    A little Audioslave
A little Queens of the Stone Age
    A little Elvis Costello
    A little U2 "fast cars"

and a little different...which is good.

  • I really like it, stripping it of the overblown production that hampered Atomic Bomb.

It's a fun intro to the new album, very much like Vertigo and Discotheque heraled both of those albums.

I wasn't a big fan of AYCLB & HTDAAB after a few months, I don't see this annoying me like Vertigo did after a short amount of time, it's got more going it on and it's not too much like classic U2, which for me is a good thing.

I hope No Horizon does see them experimenting but I'm little worried the Zooropa flavoured Tripoli has disappeared from the track listing unless it's now call Fez- Being Born.

Q's description of it being one of the bands most experimental tunes of their career was such an exciting statement, please don't tell me it's been shelved, hopefully it will turn up as B-side, little dissapointed they didn't they didn't have the balls to stick it on the album if it's not Fez.

Just heard it today. Flipped thru the radio and the main riff caught my attention. I'm not entirely sold on the song though. But it took me years to appreciate the last album...

so you'd agree with me that Zooropa was their bravest and best album?

Sorry. Just don't like it. I like U2 so I'm sure I'll check out the album, but I can't get into that first single. Time to go listen to "Bullet The Blue Sky" :)

Every time U2 releases a song or an album I try to like it, but I just can't...

I listened to the new song 2 or 3 times and I simply think this is shit. Sorry for the fans.

Achtung is till the tops for me but Zooropa would be my 2nd fav, Lemon is superb as is the title track and Stay classic U2 but restrained, Daddy's Gonna pay is great as well. I pretty much like it all Some Days is a bit naff but the rest is tops and yes I love The Wanderer.

I got in to U2 through AB and loved Zooropa, I I also prefer POP to what followed, I guess I'm more of a fan of them when they take risks, I don't look at Get on Your Boots as reinventing the wheel but it sounds fresher than alot of the material on the last 2 LP's

Can't wait for Achtung & Zooropa vinyl reissues, my Zooropa vinyl is in quite a bad way from all the playing it's had.

  • I think it is just ok...but it just being ok does give me hope for the rest of the album...singles usually aren't indicative of the overall value an album to me in most cases, so while the song is decent I would like to think there will be some really great ones on there
All I have to do is revel in the everyday....then do it again tomorrow

    not bad
    not good either

    eh

But I will buy the record, they are too good of a band not to give it a shot

I'm not sure how I feel about it yet...I'm glad they're experimenting though and i think this album will be much better than the last.

Not impressed. At all. The band peaked in the 90's. But all great bands don't stay great forever. Look at The Stones. And The Who. And Pearl Jam. **prepares for backlash** I actually like the "Into the Wild" soundtrack better than the last two PJ studio albums.
