What do you do when you're in a rut?

The last few weeks I just haven't been interested in much of anything. People bore me, and I feel like I have been boring... I think it is because my best friend is totally pissed at me... I haven't talked to her, and talking to other people is just pedestrian... It sucks... Any suggestions on getting through this and being interested in the world again? I think I'll go to mardi gras this year... sorry if this didn't make any sense... I'm polishing off a bottle of wine..

This is pinot768 (AKA Mrs. Mickeyrat - used to poston the old board) Man, when I'm in a rut, I tend to get all comfortable...a friend of mine says that people like to wallow in their ruts - you know, put in some shag carpeting, a comfy chair, hang some Christmas lights...it takes me a while to get out of a funk like that. If I can at all avoid it, I do - trying to focus on the cool shit in my life usually works, but not always...hope it gets better soon!

I guess I try to change things up.
These cuts are leaving creases. Trace the scars to fit the pieces, to tell the story, you don't need to say a word.

Solving the issue with the best friend might be a start...

I wish that were an option, but it is a mess.... I hope in time we can be close again, but I don't see it.

Thats to bad, the good thing about ruts is that they always go away... just try to keep yourself busy until then :)
  • Usually when this happens the best thing to really do is just ride it out. In time it won't bother you quite as much. But in the mean time the best thing to do is keep busy cause if you aren't you'll end up thinking about things and get more into a rut. Sorry I'm not more help. But good luck man!

I wish i had the answer, but I don't. I'm in my own rut and i've kind of been there since last august. It seems to get better for a week or two then BAM right back down. This is the longest i've been depressed for an extended period of time.

If you find the magic answer you have to let me know. I'm ready to be happy again.

A little physical activity helps me. I'm hardly a gym rat, but something to get the endorphins going, even a regular walk. The energy builds on itself.

I understand that you may not be able to completely repair things with your best friend but take a minute to decypher what you did wrong and apologize to her for it. Whether she accepts that or not or even apologizes for her own wrongdoings is irrelevant - you apologized for your actions. Then go to Mardi Gras, do some different things, keep your brain busy for awhile. Basically, you have to ride it out, like most have said. Good luck.
believe it or not, we don't "need" anything. that is only the spoiled brat in us trying to fill some temporary solution to an emptyness that does not exist.

  • Wow.. Thanks for all the great advise... Somehow I think you are all right... I have apologized and I will not make the same mistakes in the future... I found an obvious answer today.... I listened to pearl jam, sang in my car on the drive to work... felt great and had a really good day.. Haha, who woulda thunk it? Anyway, thanks all...
