That would be the correct answer.

Personally I like the E. Lansing 8/18 show as well but that's just because I was there!

Here's two of my favourites. 1998 is an interesting year as the Hawaii/Australia leg had Jack on drums and the US legs had Matt on drums, I've picked one of each for you to check out, both brilliant shows and great sounding recordings:

03/11/98 - Entertainment Centre: Sydney, Australia

Set: Oceans, Last Exit, Brain of J., Hail Hail, In Hiding, Do the Evolution, Corduroy, Wishlist, MFC, Daughter/(Push Me Pull Me), Even Flow, Mankind, Elderly Woman, Lukin, Not for You, Black, Porch

Encore: Given To Fly, Better Man, Immortality, Smile, Rockin' In The Free World

    ...

07/02/98 - Riverport Amphitheater: St. Louis, MO

Set: Oceans, Hail Hail, Brain of J., Spin the Black Circle, Tremor Christ, Given to Fly, In Hiding, Corduroy, MFC, Wishlist, Nothingman, Improv/Habit, Even Flow, Daughter/(Institutionalized), Immortality, Black, Alive

Encore 1: Do the Evolution, Jeremy, I Got Shit, Better Man/(Save it for Later), Fuckin' Up

    Encore 2: Yellow Ledbetter

I define "sleeper" as something great that many people don't even consider

it is an amazing show. I rarely hear people talk about it, that's all.

I think it's safe to say September '98 was their best month of shows ever - ?

Greenville, Virginia Beach, East Rutherford, MSG, Great Woods, Merriweather, Constitution Hall and West Palm Beach. I don't see how that can be beaten.

I don't think you know what sleeper means. It's means it's a great show that gets overlooked when lists are compiled. It doesn't mean the show put everyone to sleep, you get...

East Rutherford was the night McGwire broke the single season HR record and Ed reenacted it onstage. There is a good video of that show. Unfortunately I've only been able to find somewhat crappy audience recordings of it.

St. Louis is my favorite audience boot of all time, good sound quality and intense performance, especially Mike.

I would say Mansfield 98 should definitely be up there. And that's not just for the "quarter rant", but the setlist is awesome! Ed looks like he's got a lot in his mind but you also see him smile quite often throughout the show. And a "pissed off" version of SOLAT is always good to hear ;-)

You can "see" him smile? Do you have a DVD or something?

This is probably my favorite bootleg of all time (at least among the shows I wasn't in attendance for). I would die for a video recording of it.

    Can anyone help me out?

(And I would obviously agree that Mansfield should be up there -- number 1 in my book. The emotions in the songs are palpable. Eddie actually breaks down in Dissident and Given To Fly, mentioning that a close friend of the band's had passed away that morning.)
