so i'm listening to Temple of the Dog...and aside from Hunger Strike and Say Hello 2 Heaven, never heard the whole album...so i decided to listen to it...and then all of a sudden i hear the opening to Footsteps and i thought "oh i didn't know this was on the album"...i look at the title of the song, Times of Trouble...so i'm thinking WTF?!?! ed ved would never steal a song like this...so theirs got to be an explanation...one i can some up with is on the demo of Alive, Once, Footsteps that Jack Irons gave eddie and eddie over dubbed lyrics...my guess is that Stone didn't have a set of lyrics for that song and matched it up to Chris Cornel's lyrics and then ed came aong with his version and they both ended up being made...any of you know the truth?

I think his name means he was born in 1990.
ya man.....you took the words right out of my mouth. every so often this question pops up and i can never tell if they are kidding or not.
stone had the song written, chris wrote some lyrics for temple of the dog and ed did his version a little later.
amen to reach down being one of the finest PJ moments.....blared that today in my car!!!! so killer.
so you know how epic REACH DOWN is, here is one of my favourite tidbits about any song:
TEMPLE OF THE DOG:
This was McCready's first recording studio experience, and he took a central role in the project. McCready performed an epic 4-minute-plus solo for "Reach Down". According to Cornell, McCready's headphone monitors flew off halfway through the recording of the solo, and he played the rest without being able to hear the backing track.[6] McCready considers this track to be one of his proudest moments.
2.12 Why does "Footsteps" sound almost exactly like Temple of the Dog's "Times of Trouble?"
Gossard's song was given to Eddie as part of the Gossard demos. The song was also given to Chris Cornell (singer for Soundgarden) for a tribute album he was starting for the late Andrew Wood (the project became Temple of the Dog). "Footsteps" emerged as Vedder's song and "Times of Trouble" emerged as Chris's. So, even though it is the same music, the lyrics are different but technically speaking, Vedder's came first. As Vedder says, "Chris has his version and I have mine."
Sammi: Wanna just break up?
P.S. Vedder is not a god, Stone actually wrote most of the music in the old days . . .

This is true...my name means i was born in 1990...hense I was established in 1990...my fandom of the band wasn't till 03 ish...the story is in my profile...actually me being pretty much the same age as the band is pretty fuckin sweet to me...i feel blessed to being a part of the grunge era...even if it was the other side of the country
since my seniority status isn't really up to par with all of you, i still have a lot to learn. so i joined 10c and i thought i knew it all but i learn more every minute...my one pre 10c regret is never having listened to temple (aside from hunger strike and say hello 2 heaven...i actually have heard reach down, i just didn't bother to mention it in the original post)...so last night i listened to it... great fuckin album...
thanks for clearing it up, i'm glad to see my theory was right
oh and to the post above me, Gossard may have writing most of the music...but Ed is the god of words...stone's the god of music, Matt's the god of rhythem, and of course Mike's the god of improvised soloing. THEY ARE ALL GODS! even Boom is the god of keys
Don't forget Jeff. He is the god of the 4 string thing.

Some of us were taken aback when yuo said you have never listened to the album Temple of the Dog, because for most of us, that album was the forefront of Pearl Jam, and according to Stone, the greatest album he's ever been apart of. To some degree i was closer to Temple than I was to Ten back in the day.
With the exception of Robert Plant sharing the stage with PJ for the Katrina benefit playing those classic Led Zeppelin songs, the only other bone chilling moment for me to listen to on boot is when Chris Cornell showed up with them in Santa Barbara in 2003 and after an 11 year hiatus, they busted out with some some Temple of the Dog and played Hunger Strike and Reach Down. Fucking incredible.

My apologies...how could i forget? Jeff, the god of the bassline
and aNiMaL...i've seen some of that on youtube...AMAZING! i'm sure PJ can find it's way back into the mainstream if they do something with Chris Cornell in the near future. like a PJ feat. Chris Cornell album...bring back a neo grunge movement...that's what i ultimate want to do with my musical endevors

word
Reach down is epic. That whole song is just filled with pockets for fills and jams. Not only is it Mikes epic moment, but its Matt's too. The beat of that song is 100% made for Cameron.
