The Wings are playing the Kings right now and just scored as I wrote this.
Wings get a goal from Kirk "Stones for hands" Maltby. Up 1-0 with 11:52 left in the first.
Nobody can stop this team.
The Cup stays in Detroit this year.

I think the sharks would beat them in a seven game series....
Wings are too old, too slow...

I think the flames could even take them in 6 ..again....
    ;)

    We'll see.
But the Wings are younger this year than they were last year when they won...

It's Detroit! It's cold as f*ck here. Hockey is all we have...

I think this will be the year the Sharks shake their playoff curse. The last game between the Sharks and the Red Wings was a stinker on the Sharks' part, but I believe it was an isolated egg-laying, unlikely to occur again.

The Sharks have got a great season going.
If Detroit doesn't go all the way, I guess I'd want to see them drop it to San Jose.
But after watching the Wings for a half a season, I don't think anyone can beat them in a 7-game series.
I love that, so far, they have shaken the notion that there is some kind of a "Stanley Cup hangover".
At any rate, if anyone beats Detroit, they will have earned their championship.
We'll see how the rest of the season goes, though.
Maybe it's just that I come from Detroit, where hockey is king year round. But I really feel like the last two years have shown that the league is getting better (for TV spectators) and that the games are getting more fun to watch for people who aren't necessarily "hockey fans".
    But we'll see what happens.
Can't deny that I'm still totally excited for the NHL playoffs, and it's only January!

BTW- Wings won 4-0 against LA.
    8-0-2 in their last 10...

    Big game coming up Saturday...
Detroit could finally overtake San Jose for the No. 1 spot in the West with a win...

We don't need the President's Trophy to win the cup...in fact, I believe that the President's Trophy has jinxed us on more than one occasion. 8-)

    woohoo, a Wings thread :D

Just left the Windsor area this past fall, so most likely no more Joe Louis games for me

But I can spread the Wings image up here in Leaf land, so they know what a superior hockey franchise looks like

I agree we don't need it. But I like the west coast rivalries we have building (Anaheim and San Jose) and I'd love to dominated San Jose again to prove the best team in the league is still in Detroit.

    Sharks win 6-5 :-/
Great game though. If this is a preview of the Western Conference Finals, it's going to be a great playoff year!

I like the deadline moves Calgary made. Shows they are gearing up for a serious playoff run. The Flames have sent the Wings home early in past, so anything could happen.

But right now, I think the only team in the league that could beat Detroit in a 7-game series is San Jose. We'll see though! I love this time of year! March Madness, baseball season starts, NBA wraps up and then hockey playoffs!

I'm glad to see that Hossa is going to be OK. I'm planning on heading up to watch them play the Blue Jackets on Saturday and party in Greektown.

I made my first trip to The Joe last year. In regards to Detroit, I always thought the movie Robocop was filmed on a fake set . . . turns out they probably saved some money by shooting it in motown. It's kind of creepy how GM's headquarters reminds me of OCP as well.

    LETS GO REDWINGS!

It's going to be a helluva playoff year. Calgary made some great moves, San Jose is very good, my other fave team the Bruins (even though they're slumping a bit) are up there and with New Jersey getting Brodeur back! Damn good fun for hockey lovers :)

Hoping the Wings and Bruins play in the finals :)

I'm going to the game too!
I think me an my date are going to go to the Detroit Brewing Company for dinner before the game.
I'm pumped for a good one. Columbus has owned us this season.
