Is it just me or is this an incredible album! This was my first listen to Portishead and I think I'm going to have to buy their other albums. Their music is nothing like what I normally listen and I was completly blown away. I think it was one of the best albums of 2008. Anyone else with me???

One of the best albums of last year. "The Rip" is a strong candidate for song of the year and Machine Gun and We Carry On are standouts as well. Not a bad song on the album though.

GREAT album! In fact, I'll throw it on right now.

I've heard of this album so much, but I don't even know what kind of music it is.

I need to go find some songs on the tube.
    Thanks EPOTTSIII!

Really like this album, nothing can beat Dummy, which the OP should find post haste

I like this album better than the follow-up to Dummy

The Rip is a great track

Third is great.. especially The Rip, of course.. I love their older albums as well, but this one made me love them forever.. :)
  • Defintely one of my albums of 2008, I think it shows a more diverse Portishead.

The superb Dummy and self titled are a more easier listen, with 3rd they really pulled out the stops and bought Portishead roaring into the 21st Century, not a bad track on the album for me.

That trade mark John Barry sound is still there but with a darker more ominous sound. Other tracks see them dipping their toes in places they haven't before.

I remember the first album in paticular becoming a coffee table album in the UK and everyone owning it, the new album completely abandons that cosier feel. Try playing this at your dinner party!

    Simply stunning!

Thanks for the tip! I can't believe I am just now getting in to them. I feel like I've been missing out big time.
