yeah I don't know what that is about either.
These cuts are leaving creases. Trace the scars to fit the pieces, to tell the story, you don't need to say a word.
  • I wonder why they found it necessary to display the exact time you signed up as a member.

Per PHPbb Development Team: "The users titled "Bots" are from companies like Google; they are indexing the board for search engines."

Each post can appear on Google so you'll want to do yourself proud. :)

That's true. I completed small business management and also e-commerce courses last fall and there were topics covered pertaining to this.

As well as current and prospective employers having the access to information on the internet before they decide to hire you.

I'm watching myself very closely... and wishing some things I said could be permanently erased. Even if the posts are deleted, they are still archived.. :p

Yeah, like Kat said.... *points above*

  • Soooo youre saying this is not the place to diss my employer? Hmm...I think I need a new user name!
But my real name isnt logged on this message board, so how would they know it was me?
Maybe the new hot trend for Human Resources in 2009 will be a blank sheet asking for any message boards you are signed up with and your forum name.

I've come up with pit posts in google searches before. Is this one that different?
"I'd rather be with an animal." "Those that can be trusted can change their mind." "The in between is mine." "If I don't lose control, explore and not explode, a preternatural other plane with the power to maintain." "Yeh this is living." "Life is what you make it."

Ha, not if you share some information that they could figure out... and I wouldn't mention anything personal at work that would give them some information about you to goggle with.

But that's funny with your last statement... no, I don't think it would go that far with the Human Resources. We still have privacy laws protecting us.

However, I am not sure about the financial institutions though. There was a case in Australia where the bank tried to collect house payments from a couple through phone calls, emails, and even a personal visit from a lawyer.

When that didn't work, they obtained permission from the court to contact the couple through FaceBook to demand their payments.

Sorry for getting off the topic.

You're right on the topic we think. Thanks for the PSA. We've seen members on the Message Pit talk about getting canned for their extra curricular online activities during work hours. The employer's IT people see all...and Google archives all. And sometimes it doesn't matter if it's after work hours if they don't like what someone is saying.

sorry, I don't really understand. What do you mean they're indexing the board? And google gives people the title 'Bots'??? :?

I'm guessing this isn't a GOOD development? Are there any advantages to this?

Easy... from your IP address. They know which computer it comes from, when, who was logged on at the time, etc. There are no 'privacy laws' protecting anyone from possibly unauthorised use of a company computer, company network, etc. As Kat says, the IT people see it all and can 'tell it all' too. So don't be too comfy posting from work, even after work hours or during your lunchtime (ie your time). You are still using their facilities.

    *nods sagely*

That happens more often than people realize, including myself. That anything we said on our personal time can be used against us or creating an unfavorable opinion about us that could affect our jobs or even worse, reputation.

    Freedom of speech isn't absolute.

    Thanks.

oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

the google thing is so that someone types in say "pearl jam leprosy" then google will find the posts on this forum in which i've typed leprosy... its just to aid the searching process.... it doesnt spy on you... coming out of the shower.
