what i mean is, when pj covers a song that i didn't previously know, it's not worth my time to track down the song by the original artist, because it usually blows balls compared to the live pj version, no matter how badly ed fucks up the lyrics. (although, i still do respect the original artists for somehow inspiring our favorite band.)

crazy mary, i got you, driven to tears, know your rights, and the list goes on. pj just has a way of making those songs their own.

anyone else feel the same way?

I think they make many songs better, I think some are equal to the original, and some I prefer the original, although I can't think of too many at the moment.

  • Love Reign Over Me, is the first one that I felt they really trumped the original artist.

when me and my brother first found the original (we're young forgive us) we thought it was sadistically upbeat and happy for a song that was about lost love.

There is a version of "Driven to Tears" that Eddie did with his band C+ and I absolutely LOVE it!!! I haven't heard PJ's cover. Where can I find it?

I also agree that "Masters of War" with Ed, Mike and G.E. Smith is an amazing cover. As is the "sit down version" I think they did on the Letterman show.

Pearl Jam is just the best!!! Period. No need to say more!!!!
I wish a guy like Eddie, would like me.
  • know your rights was not trumped by pj.... it was extremely awesome but not trumped. fortunate sun though??? that was awesome. I saw the Seeker played live too. Fuckin' Up.!! there are a lot of good one...

That was my first thought when I read this thread..I totally agree with you. But the original poster does speak the truth as PJ just has a way of making any song they cover somehow their own. "I Believe In Miracles" is another one that comes to mind...

Pearl Jam's "Driven To Tears" is great, but it can't even touch the original from Zenyatta Mondatta.

Their cover is closer to the way Sting arranged it for his band when he first went solo. That arrangement is far inferior to The Police original.
