it looks really good, but seems to have the story line of my dead marriage (besides the time period). :?
Seems I may have to pass on this one, for now at least.

The movie was brutal. Especially seeing it on our 10th anniversary and I spend my days commuting exactly like Leo in the movie.

Spent the dinner going, Are you OK, Yeah how about YOU? Should we have moved to the Burbs?

Well done but tough to stomach.

Really nice! Great dinner. She loved the present. Her X0th Birthday was 2 days ago so it has been a great week. Taking her to Prague in 12 days to really celebrate :)

Ugh... That movie was terrible!! If you want to see a movie that describes a woman's depression in middle class suburbia then go see "The Hours." Revolutionary Road was one cliche and predictable plot twist after another.
  • I really want to see it anything by Sam Mendes is great

    exactly.

AND kate winslet's in it? then i am in.

i realize they are husband and wife so probably not too hard to convince her to star ;) but nonetheless.....it looks soooo good. and whatever it says about marriage i don't care......been married over 16 years, sure there's not much we both haven't thought of at one time or another already.

hope to see it this weekend!
i'll ride the wave where it takes me

saw it yesterday, thought it was great! unbelievably sad, but done oh so well! winslet was fantastic, as was dicaprio. she most definitely deserved her award. i don't see it at all as disparaging towards marriage at all. if anything, against family/children...but even that i don't believe. i see it as railing against lack of choices, and most importantly....conforming, and sadder......settling, living in fear. it really was soooo good.

to be fair tho, my husband was bored.

I just thought it was so predictable! If you want to see a movie about women's depression in their families go see "The Hours" it was done so much better.

Plus, do all suburban guys only last two seconds in bed?

i saw the hours and thought it was awesome.
also, obviously, we see this film quite differently b/c i do not see it as a film about a woman's depression, at ALL. i saw your comments about the flick elsewhere....and yes, i simply disagree. i thought it was great. and yes, NOT about depression.

as to the last comment, HELL NO! :D

He's got style, but I preferred this movie when it was called 'American Beauty.'

That is such an insult to American Beauty. This film is nowhere near American Beauty.

american beauty and revolutionary road are two completely different films, absolutely. sure, they deal with marriage......but both deal with SO much more than simply that.....and both do so in entirely different ways. a sense of loss, a sense of settling, etc....permeate both, sure...but they are just such different films, period.

I enjoyed this film over the weekend. I tend to like most of what Mendes does though.

I liked it; my husband, who read the book a few weeks ago, thought it was just ok.

Yeah, ultimately I didn't think it was anything like American Beauty, save for a few obvious superficial similarities.

yes definitely depressing....but what a great story imo! i think it has so much to say about couples, families, children....just living your life and making your choices.....and especially for the time period, spoke volumes of how things were and the lack of choice for women, etc. i really found it to be so real, so good and winslet was fantastic imo. however, i've not read the book and i think that definitely makes a difference often enough.

btw - i LOVED the furniture. bit of nostalgia, the danish modern....back in vogue again, but my mother has a lot of similar pieces in our home growing up...all gone now.

I think Winslet was fantastic, as well. And I agree, it was a great story. I think it was a bit frightening, lol, for me in that there were aspects of the couple that reminded me of myself and my husband, and especially choices we've made since becoming parents unexpectedly about 5 years earlier than planned, and then moved to suburbia...lol. So watching that movie, I was taken aback for a while and thinking "oh god, will we turn into that???" Ultimately, we are very different people from the characters in the story, though...which is a good thing. And we like our quaint little life in suburbia. I think, actually, that's what bothers me the most. As it turns out, I'm not too cool to like it here. ;)

Oooooh, I loved the furniture, too! I sometimes get distracted while watching films...especially from that time period...just drooling over the furniture and other aspects of the decor. Then again, HGTV is like porn to me.
