Don't forget to order 'The Empyrean' by John Frusciante.
Out in Japan today and on the 27th in US.

This will be the best album released in 2009 I assure you. Simply beautiful!
If PJ decides to put something out, I have to reevaluate, but for now...

Preview of the magic 'Unreachable' can be found at TouYube...

  • This song is bloody awesome. Sorry Dan Auerbach, you've lost "First Purchase of 2009" honours.
    "We've done really well with teenage death songs." -EV
  • I like this song and will definitely give a listen to this album when it comes out
    I always appreciated the Red Hot (a bit less recently) but I've never listened to a Frusciante solo album. I know he released a lot of albums buy what would be your recommendation to get into it ?
  • i'm really excited about this release!

    john is an amazing singer/songwriter/guitarist.

    i love his solo releases!

    Just downloaded it... we'll see how this one turns out. The guy makes beautiful sounds, so my hopes are up, but he's also completely batshit, so it could be the sonic equivalent of smashing toasters together.

    I just finished listening, it´s beautiful from start to finish although don´t know if it´s gonna be the best album of the year but surely will be on my top 5.

    I would give this one a shot and then make your way to the releases he put out in 2004

    The Will to Death
    DC EP
    Inside of Emptiness
    A Sphere in the Heart of Silence
    Curtains
    Ataxia - Automatic Writing

    They are all different but are all great albums... Especially 'Inside of Emptiness' and 'DC EP'...
    The Ataxia - II is also great.

    Skip the early ones which are too freaked out ("Your Pussy's Glued to a Building on Fire", wtf?)

    I wish all RHCP songs were sung by John...

    To record only water for 10 days is an excellent "early" album of his.
    {if (work != 0) {
    work = work + 1;
    sleep = sleep - work * 10;}
    else if (work >= 0) {
    reality.equals(false);
    work = work +1;
    }system("pause");
    return 0;}

    This was a surprisingly good record, and I discovered a lot about the guy through these songs. I put together a proper review here: http://www.antiquiet.com/reviews/2009/01/finding-god-with-john-frusciante/

    It's the best I have ever heard from him, but I think about 99% of his other stuff is complete crap. It sounds more accessible soundwise.

    Before the Beginning is crap. He isn't a good enough pure lead guitarist to keep it interesting for 8 minutes.

    Song to the Siren is just a great song, so he would have done something horrible for it to be not so great.

    I get that he has RHCP as a pop outlet, but he should ditch them and use those for himself. I think, with his mindset he could branch out a little and make some pretty interesting Hendrix-ian music. Plus, I love his singing voice and Keidis's lyrics are tired.
  • Ordered this album last night. Good reviews so far.

    I have "Niandra LaDes and Usually just a tshirt" and "to record only water for 10 days".

    Not the best but I really like the song "Going inside".

    Hope this is alot better. John da man!!

    I think you'll like this one. I got a downloaded copy but I still plan on buying the album on Tuesday. Guitar-wise, I think he is picking up where he left off from his Stadium Arcadium sound/playing-style. That was my initial reaction.

    I agree. It's a beautiful album. Over time it may just become my favourite John F record.

    Have I missed something or is there a distinct lack of love for "Shadows Collide With People" in this thread...

    Also, check out the work John did on the 'Brown Bunny' soundtrack. Some of his best songs are on there.
    “Do not postpone happiness”
    (Jeff Tweedy, Sydney 2007)

    “Put yer good money on the sunrise”

    Shadows collide is great.... Can't wait to pick up The Empyrean...
    Conversations getting dull
    There's a constant ringing in my ears
    Sense of humor's void and numb
    And I'm bored to tears.......
  • Have it a couple of weeks now and I think its a great album.

    I haven't heard anything since "to record only water..." so it was great to hear.

    Highly recommended.

  • I'm defintely pursuing more of his albums, the Kid A type ones have been recommended to me.

    The Empyrean is astoundingly good, love it to bits and it continues to yield more and more as you listen to it.

    The penultimate track he sounds like Frank Zappa at the start, simply awesome!
  • Dark Light is so cool.
