The Dark Knight-6 Months later.

Well, after Heath Ledgers win last night at the Golden Globes and browsing a thread about the film on HF Boards, it got me thinking, people are still passionate about this film. It transcended an entire genre and Christopher Nolan blurred the lines between a great comic book film and great crime drama. I just can't for the life of me understand why there is still so much hate for this movie, maybe people are still sick of the hype and with the Oscar Nominations being announced soon and it's re-release in theaters I was just wondering what everyone thinks about it now that they hype has died down?

There appears to be no polls on this board so I will just ask, The Dark Knight - Love it ? or Hate it ?

  • I've never gotten the sense that many hate the film, but if someone specifically doesn't like the graphic novel type of movie I could understand. In fact I think the movie stood up well against the ridiculous amount of hype it was exposed to in the months leading to its premiere.

I haven't seen much hate or backlash, except maybe from geeks who just want to make a statement or refuse to like anything successful.

I love it. I still think it is one of the best movies I have ever seen, expecially over the last decade or so.

I've never heard of any hate for this movie. Where is all this hate? It's one of the only flicks I've ever seen that had this kind of hype and managed to live up.

I loved it. I'm not a watcher of these types of movies (didn't see the preceding batmans) but this one was great acting and plot, sans the acting by batman himself, but his was passable enough. I really liked it, and am going to force my father to watch it when I visit him this weekend when on vacation.

    Love it. Almost too much.
I got the DVD for Christmas and have watched it like five times.
Great movie, great portrayal of the Joker, however, had Heath Ledger not died so tragically, I wonder if you would have the Oscar buzz for him.

Yeah, a lot of people think it is overrated, hence where I am getting the "hate" thing from. It all stemmed from this thread on my hockey board http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=593152 there is a lot of pure film fans on there and there is a lot of criticism. Mainly would we all be talking oscar had Ledger not died (yes, of course), Was Harvey Dent/Two Face rushed(No, he was not), was the movie only so popular because of Ledgers Death(no, probably not), was it a bit too long(yes, probably about 10-15 minutes), was Bales batman voice overdone(yes, a little). There is a lot of critics like with any popular movie and yes there is some hate, even if you haven't seen it because you don't venture outside your circles.

Good point, I should venture beyond my circles. Because nothing screams a great place to get critiques on films like a hockey board...

None of that seems like hate to me. Hate to me is saying a film sucks. I don't know anyone who has said that.

Whats the difference between getting critiques on a hockey board then a pearl jam board? Are you insinuating that hockey fans don't know anything about film? :? That is what it sounds like to me.

Maybe I should have clarified that I meant criticism when I said "hate"

It was a joke. Though your comment about needing to "venture outside circles" rubbed me the wrong way and sounded kind of snobbish... you don't know what kind of circles the people here run in or to what extent they venture outside them.

No I wasn't trying to offend anyone or sound snobbish, I just know that a lot of times my whole circle of friends will see a movie or get an album or something and will rave and rave about it and by the time I get around to checking out said film or album I don't understand the hype, I just meant a lot of time peoples opinions are the by-products of the circles they are in and with a movie with as much hype as TDK it is entirely plausible that some people (not all) liked it simply because all their friends raved about it. They "bought" into the hype.
