Edited versions of Pearl Jam albums...anyone have 'em?

My daughter, Venus, lives with her mom, for now. Venus wanted me to send her all the Pearl Jam CDs for Christmas. It will be a late Christmas present, but I want to send her copies of all the albums. I am not sure if I want her having the unedited versions, just yet though. I'm sure the band would understand why I want to censor the "bad" language out, seeing as most are fathers already. She is only 7 but I want her to have the albums in their complete form, as I am sure the band wants the same for us. If the language is left in, I would have to take the songs out, thereby ruining the total aesthetic of the individual album.

Does anyone know where I can find mp3 copies of the edited versions of their albums? Or, more importantly, could 10C sell me edited versions? This way, I can introduce her to one of the best bands on the planet and not worry about her singing "fuck me if you only hear what you wanna hear" at school.

Should I send 10C an e-mail? Any help would be appreciated.

P.S. I have all their albums so I'm not trying to freeload or anything. I just can't find too many PJ albums at all in stores around here, much less the edited versions.

I'd give Walmart a shot. They're the only ones that I know of that sell edited CD's.
  • if nothing else i would say just make some mix cds of songs that do not have bad language or where the language is not too bad. then you can save the other songs to show her in a few years. i no it isnt as good as giving her each album in its entirety but it is better than no pearl jam.

I believe Wal-mart only sells edited versions if the album is labeled with "Parental Advisory" sticker on it by the industry.

I bought Riot Act at Wal-Mart on the first day of its release. "Save You" was not edited. That was when I found out about how they sell their own edited version of albums there, and I've pretty much stayed away from buying CDs there since- I don't want to pick up the "fake" version ;)

Well, I honestly think that edited or censored versions in general are always a wrong thing.. I understand your situation, but if I was you I would make a compilation of songs on many cd's, and leave out the songs with bad words or not good for children.. And by the way, I don't think there are so many PJ songs not good for kids, if you think about it, watching TV can be much more dangerous.. Anyway, on the "Save You" single, this song is edited (no "fuck" words) plus there is other side, a sweet and cool song, and this single is easy to find..

I seem to remember the Save You single having an edited version. I could be wrong though.

I realize the point of this is probably more for your mom rather than daughter, but when I first heard Pearl Jam when I was 9, all the lyrics (swear words and all) pretty much went right over my head, I didn't even realize or comprehend what was being said and I only cared and paid attention to the music. It probably wasn't until I was 12 or so when I started actually comprehended the lyrics. So there's a good chance that it won't have a negative impact on her.

Well if no one points them out then she won't notice. There arn't that many 'curse' words anyway.

I know Ed taught my 5 year old nephew the F-word. Kids hear and absorb more things than we realize.

Just give her the regular cd's. It's not like anyone in any English-speaking country can understand what the hell Ed is singing anyway ;)

I think if you download the Chop Suey version of Save you on ITunes it is edited. I'm pretty sure i used to have it and I'm pretty sure it used to piss me off.

Yeah how about giving her the regular versions but telling her the wrong words? Someone on the old board said their daughter thought the words to Leash were "get outta my fluffy face".

The "Save You" CD single (at least the U.S. version) did feature an edited version of the song (no "fucker" to be found).

I may be wrong, but I don't believe any of Pearl Jam's albums have ever been released in an edited/censored form. Even though there is some profanity here and there, none of the albums have been released with a Parental Advisory label here in the U.S.

I was in a similar situation a while back with my much younger brother. I made DIY edited versions using Audacity, which is freeware. I would upload the song on my computer, select just the curse word, and hit "reverse". It's what a lot of radio songs seem to do if they don't have access to the master. Then you just re-burn the CDs with the edits. Hope that helps, PM me with ?s if you want.

I can edit the songs for you. What I can do is either reverse the swear word, add silence, add a beep, or i can find a part of the song to splice into where the swear word was (although this will take more time and effort).

Does a 7-year old have the attention span to digest 8 discs of Pearl Jam?

i remember after the first time i heard the self titled album in full, i said to myself "wow not a single curse word" i never actually double checked to make sure i'm right...but thinking back...i don't think avocado had any curse words in it...could the reasoning be because of the fact they have kids now?

My niece is turning 7 tomorrow. When she was 5 she was singing all the lyrics to the "feel it rising" song, as she would call it. She made me play it over and over and over. Like we'd go out for ice cream, and she would only want to hear that song. Five or six times straight. And she could tell the difference between different bootlegs. She preferred some of the more aggressive vocals on some bootlegs. ...so yeah, they will pick it up, even if just phonetically.
ADD 5,200 to the post count you see, thank you. :)
