OK, So I recently started a band with a few peeps, and it's been going well. We're writing some kick ass songs that I think are really good. My only problem is that our singer is freakin annoying!! We've practiced a few times without her, and it has been great. Things have gotten done, and songs have gotten written, but when she's there, no songs get written, and it almost seems like a waste of time. She's loud, annoying, and likes to be the center of attention all the time(you'd think that would be a good thing for a singer.) Anyways, to cut the bitch fest short....should I stay in a band with someone who I find annoying just for the sake of making good music? I know the Ramones, the Who, and alot of others have done it...

I wouldn't. Only for the reason that being in a band should be fun. Is she an approachable person? Maybe you could talk to her about it. Good luck.

Van Halen comes to mind for some reason
but, as good as they were without their annoying bitch......man are they glad to have him back on side :D
    It's a fine line I guess...audiences like a big personality.
    I came, I saw, I concurred.....
  • I agree about the fine line. It also depends on her level of maturity. The main thing is whether or not you can work together for your common goals, whether they are making music, making money or just having fun.

My husband is a musician in his 50s and has been in many bands over the years. This problem comes up a lot because (duh) whenever people work together they have personality conflicts. In a band the roles usually aren't as clearly defined as in other workplaces. He stopped trying to make it big a long time ago and just enjoys playing for fun and making a little money. He's worked with his share of crazy, eccentric and irresponsible people. If they just need a little accommodating, everybody in the group tries to work with them. If they are dragging everybody else down, they need to go. Making music should be something you enjoy, not something that causes you stress.

Yes. If her lyrics and voice is good stay in the band until her behavior becomes destrucitve to the creative process or you find another group. Do the other band mates feel the same as you?

  • I don't know how they feel, honestly. I haven't asked. I don't want to come off sounding like an ass if they don't agree with me.
