Another Problem with LukinFan's Computer...

Alright, here;s the lastest problem with my computer. After taking everyone's advice on here, I'm going to buy an external harddrive and back up all my music and pictures and just start fresh. But yesterday, I plugged in my camera and ipod and when I went to "My Computer" neither was showing up. Also my USB memory stick wouldn't show up. I know it reads it because my ipod would charge, but it wouldn't show up under itunes and when I had my USB memory stick in, I could go under a word doc that I had saved under "my docs" and then go to open, and on the dropdown menu, the drive would show up. So, it's not a problem saving all my word docs, but how am I going to save my music and my pics?- other than my putting them on CDs.

Also, I guess when I reinstall itunes, I'm going to have to start fresh again with everything, but will I have to re-register my ipod and my wife's ipod (her's is really old and I probably won't be able to re-register her's)

I need advice, please- thanks!!!!

the drives are assigning themselves drive letters that are already taken
right click on my computer, select management, and then select disk management in there. that will show all of the devices with storage connected.

right click on them and select change drive letter and paths to give them another drive letter so they show up

    Thanks Vedder Soup.

I right clicked on My Computer, and then clicked on "Manage" and then clicked on "Disk Management" and this is what came up:

    An error box that read:

    Logical Disk Manager

The Dependency Service or group failed to start

  • I just bought a 1 tb external hard drive at Bestbuy last night for $145.I think it is a steal at that price.I keep everything on external drives in case anything happens to my computer.I currently have 135 gigs of music on mine so with all my pictures and other crap a 500 gig didn't cut it anymore.

type services.msc in the run line (start, run) look for and check to see if you can manually start the logical disk manager service.

edit: almost forgot...while you're there make sure the "plug and play" service is set to automatic and running.

you rock- thank you!!!!!! It works! I backed up everything onto my friend's external hard drive, but my music- because it was taking forever!!!! For some reason it was going a ton slower to transfer than it should had been. :(

Hey cool, glad it worked out. Not sure about the speed thing, could be a lot of different factors, but in any event let the band(s) play on! ;)
