Anybody know how this is done and what software is necessary?

I have some flac files that are 24-bit/96kHz and I would like to convert to 16-bit/44.1kHz for cd burning.

Any help at all would be appreciated, thanks.

I'm not sure about Flac. But Winamp has always been around to do this kind of stuff and play music. I know, I know, it doesn't have a cute apple logo on it...

I don't know. Winamp has plugins, there is gonna be one for it.

Here is the FLAC plugin for Winamp

Generally you just load your playlist then select the "Output" method from the options screen shown on that link. By changing the Output method you can alter or create files. I'm guessing Flac is a propreitory Mac bullshit crap file type though, so good luck with that.

Oh, nevermind. Apparently Winamp has native Flac support, so I don't think you'd need the plugin. And I guess it's not Mac shit, thankfully.

  • As far as I can see, those Output options are just for the audio signal that winamp outputs to the soundcard. They don't create new files.

Does anyone out there know software that will create 16-bit wavs from 24-bit?

There is an Output option that is "Disk Writer Plugin" or something it will allow you to configure file output options. I used to do it all the time with converting MP3s to WAV for disc burning. You can even concatinate all the songs into one WAV or remove the 2 second gaps between songs and all that stuff. It's just not streamlined for n00bs.

I use dBpoweramp for all my music converting purposes. I'm not positive that it does what you're asking but I would be suprised if it didn't.
