How do I post on youtube ?

I tried posting a short clip on youtube, but it said the file was way too big. How do I reduce the file size ? I guess there is compresison software. Any hints.
Everyone else in teh world seems to know how to do this except me.
I recorded the clip in digital on a Canon camera wiht video capability.

first...youtube only allows files that are 100MB or less (even though it says 10 minutes, depending on the quality of the graphics it might be longer than 10 minutes as long as it's not over 100MB)

secondly...what's the files format? i.e. wmv, mpg, mpeg are the most command.

OK...about the compression. You can use hjsplit software, it's free. It will allow you to slice the video in any size. Here's an instruction from a BBS I found.

It's in .zip file, you just have to extract the folder.

that should allow to the cut or split your video.

Thanks, teh clip was less than a minute, but obviously the camera is recording in a high resolution cos the file was way bigger than that. I am an analogue techno-ignoramus, but I will try teh link you gave and see if I can get some software to break it down a bit.
MAybe I'll just find someone who knows how to do it too, that would be easier.

yeah the better quality/higher resolution the video has the bigger Memory it will take up.
