I tried to re-install it already, but it won't work... My friends can play the exactly the same file in wmp11 on a computer without installed codecpacks or other media players like winamp....

BTW, my winamp also refuses to play them...

    Anyone???
  • I can't help you with windows media player but if it's an avi you want to play then VLC is your answer.

It's got codecs for almost everything, avi included.

  • does it give you an error? or does it only play the volume? Alot of .avi problems are from people not having divx installed...even if your friend doesnt think he installed it he may have installed it through something.

    divx is at http://www.divx.com

you need the codecs no matter what player you use, winamp, WMP or whatever - if you download Divx Player or VLC player, the codecs are already included. DIVX plays a lot of stuff, easy to use - VLC player plays almost anything, even wierd rare formats that nothing else will play.

I recommend VLC player - easy to use and plays all formats. Even if you want to use winamp or WMP, after you install divx or VLC, your videos should work in the other programs as well

I'd check out gspot, it'll tell you what codec you need. If winamp and wmp won't play it, then you need the codec.
