iPod question

yeah, so i have a 30 gig iPod and love it. my girlfriend wants to get an iPod Shuffle.. my question is if i would hook her's up to my iTunes would it transfer anything over? or do i have to do that iCopy thing (which i don't know how to do but my friend does!)? or will i lose my iTunes (worst case scenerio)?

you can have multiple ipods connected to one itunes library
