my favorites folders get blocked by a little gray square in IE

I have the latest IE version. When I am using the favorites pulldown at random times a folder I try to access frequently has a little gray square that appears in front of the fsubfolder path and prevents me from entering that subfolder. It does not go away until I restart the browser

any one have any clue?
