how do you increase the ipod import cd speed? my friends imports at 17x and i'm lucky to get 7x. maybe my computer is garbage. i know i have 2 gigs of memory, but maybe that is irrelevant for the speed. any help would be appreciated. thank you.

what are your usb port speed? 1.1 or 2.0?

and computer memory is in fact irrelevant in this matter
I just don't trust anything that bleeds for five days and doesn't die.
  • it says that it is usb 2.0.

Try to have only iTunes open when you are importing CDs to iTunes. Also, see if you have buffer underrun, or whatever iTunes calls it, turned off.

I assume that is what you are asking about, right? Not iPod import speed, but iTunes from a CD import speed...?

  • thanks for the help. it's just not importing cd's at a speed higher than 7x. i greatly appreciate the help.

Try this...go to Edit, Preferences, Advanced tab, Importing tab, uncheck the boxes that say "Use error correction when reading Audio CDs" and "Play songs while importing or converting," click Ok.

Error checking will slow down your rip speed...but can be useful for scratched discs or hard to read discs. If neither of these boxes are not checked there's something else limiting the speed (could be CD/DVD rom drive or CDs you are trying to rip). Two other things...are you ripping the CDs to a local drive or a network drive? If it's the latter then that may be your bottleneck. Also, what format are you ripping to? ACC? MP3? Apple Lossless? This may also impact your ripping speed.

  • thnks for the input. i ended up putting a new cd/dvd drive and all is well. it appears my old one was shot.
