opinions from IT people?

I upgraded a friends computer to IE7, and ever since then I can't view web pages on his comp. AIM works, I can ping websites, but browsers just wont load websites. I was rushing out of his house and all i got to fool around with was the LAN settings in the explorer options, nothing wierd there. His router isn't blocking any type of HTTP port or anything either. I am going there tonight and just wanted some fresh ideas to trouble shoot. Thanks in advance.

  • Is it just IE7 that won't load websites or all browsers on the computer? And what is the message you get when attempting to load a webpage?

Are you using Zone Alarm? Are you using a static or a dynamic IP address? Are you using Windows Firewall?

interesting. well at least it works now.
  • It got wierd because I tried running it before restarting. I wonder what part of the installation needs the reboot so bad.

    Probably the registry.

I know that IE7 on release had a major bug in the Phishing Filter and Microsoft very quietly released a patch for it. In-fact just searching for Phishing Filter Patch on google isn't good enough. You have to go through dozens of sites to find the actual patch. However, the bug only affected sites that use frames.

they have their place, but are often misused and can mostly be replaced by a css-based lay-out, so no tables either !! :D

I'm working on a php site atm, and I'm just shifting blocks around, with frames, that would have been hell ...
