  • This is the one I use. Super simple and has presets for the iPod, AppleTV, normal DVDs, Quicktime, etc.

Great thread. How about ripping audio from DVD's to put on the iPod as MP3?

For example, I'd love to rip Single Video Theory's audio and put it on my iPod for trips, listening to at work, etc.
Do you remember Rock & Roll Radio?

this seemed pretty easy so far... u just downloaded the software and am in the process of ripping my copy of the Showbox... it said it would take between 12-18 minutes...not too bad... the step by step instructions made it idiot proof... perfect for me :-)

    thanks for the hook up....

14 HOURS? That seems really long. It won't be as fast as a CD because it is much larger, but 14 hours is way too long.

I found the above link very good, although the handbrake software is not the hardest to use (especially on the mac... though I did find the PC version a bit shite), ripped most of my PJ DVDs so I have them on my iPod for when I go on my snowboarding holiday next week :)

Just bootleg DVD's I'm guessing, not SVT etc. ALthough it'd rule to have SVT on my iPod.

  • my macbook doesnt have ripping software but does burn dvds. does that mean handbrake would work once i download it and that would rip dvds for me? im slow with some of this stuff. and yeah, having svt or latg on my ipod would be fantastic.

Yes, just get handbrake, insert dvd, quit out of dvd player when it autostarts, set your preferences in handbrake (stay away from lpcm as this normally ends up with hiss all the way through, and hit start

I ripped touring band, and Immagine at work yesterday along with Big Fish and a load of snowboarding dvds, and none of them took longer than an hour to rip - though if you do the two-pass encode as per the link above it will take twice as long, to be honest I have not noticed any discernable difference in the end file when done with one-pass or two-pass, so go for one pass as its quicker.

There is a windows gui version for handbrake:

    http://handbrake.fr/rotation.php?file=Handbrake-win-2.41.exe

But to be honest I was not impressed. the gui was not as intuitive, and it did not actually look like it was doing anything, and when it said it had 16 hours to go, I quit it!

I am using a MacBook, its the black version with 1gb mem.

I have just ripped the 22nov2005 Santiago show in roughly 30 mins (for a 1hr49min show).

For Windows I use PQ DVD http://www.pqdvd.com/

  • Oh...

Also I am trying to get into trading shows, so once I start getting a collection I will offer these in ipod format as well.

At the moment I have Santiago 11.22.2005, and Toledo Oct 2nd 2004 in ipod format, so if anyone wants a trade, let me know.

(like I said I am trying to get into trading, so its only two shows at the mo!)
