Burning movie files on my comp to a DVD

I always hate coming here, just because I'm not very tech savvy compared to many people. So here's my problem, I have a movie on my computer, and it's slip up into a few chapters. I've burnt it to a DVD, and it will play on any computer, but not a standard DVD player. Can someone put this in terms for anyone to understand. Thanks and I REALLY REALLY appreciate it!
