  • Most hard disk discovery programs cost money but I used a free one after I had accidentally ticked to wipe Installation Files on Disk Cleanup, and the program worked.

i shall give it a shot.

i shall need free space in another drive so that this prog can transfer the data from the conked drive to that free space, will i not ??

be ware that those types of dowloads also ussually run rampid through your computer and become a pain. If you choose to use it, gather all files you want, save them elsewhere (dvd, cd, external hard drive....whatever) then reload/format your drive and windows

I use an external drive to back up my files, and do so on a weekly basis.

It is a real pain recovering....and it sounds like you may have a very difficult time here. If it is stating that your drive is not formatted, you may not be able to access it at all.
The only thing I enjoy is having no feelings....being numb rocks!

And I won't make the same mistakes
    (Because I know)
Because I know how much time that wastes
    (And function)
    Function is the key
  • I am thinking of getting one. Any suggestions, or anything to watch out for would be great. Thanks!

You can try Stellar Phoenix FAT & NTFS a good recovery software, which salvage the data even when partition is not opening.
Download the demo version from http://www.stellarinfo.com/partition-recovery.htm
Demo version will let you see the recovered data.
    Hope it will be helpful.

where is this hard drive? is it a second drive in your PC? can you take it out and connect it to another PC?

you can go to Control Panel, Administrative Services, Computer Managment, Disk Management. do you see the drive there?

it may not be spinning correctly. a friend used this..http://www.grc.com/spinrite.htm but its expensive.

hard drive crashes suck bad. just happened to me last night, lucky for me it wasnt the drive that crashed it was windows. (fucking widows). I was able to take the drive out, connect it to another PC and copy all the data off.

    good luck
