i use it on my mac. it's ok. it's a HUGE resource drain. when it's running, nothing else on my computer works very well, so dont expect to download while browsing the web or talking to friends or anything. but other than that, i havent had any complications from it. works just fine when you're just looking to leave your computer on and download some stuff for a while.

  • All these p2p programs are legal. However, what you choose to share might not be.

FrostWire is probably safer than LimeWire:

    Yep. What he said.

The system does kind of grind to a halt when you use it. The nice thing is that it downloads from multiple sources at once, so if one user drops out, the connection will usually stay alive.

I use it all the time. If a virus is found in a file, Limewire will automatically delete it. And if someone rated a file poorly, it gets deleted too. I've never had a problem with it, and I can still use my PC as always. Yes you can download to iTunes too.
  • I've used Limewire for a good part of 3 years. I use it on my Mac at work. I've had to cut down on my downloading. However, I've never had a problem with it.

The sharing of personal files, as is the "intended" nature of P2P filesharing, is pretty much perfectly legal.

However, when you are sharing someone else's intellectual property, such as a song or a movie or what have you, that is illegal. So while services like Limewire have their legal purposes and it is perfectly legal to have it on your computer, it is definately illegal to download a song using it.

so about warez and frostwire... do they work for macs?

warez probably will but it is pretty much known for being virus and porn city.

I've never used frostwire, since I find I got much better results (and less spyware and shit) from Soulseek

Same to you. I actually prefer Bittorrent but I will definately soulseek stuff from my friends because it isusually just easier than manually sending them over MSN or AIM

Canadian courts overturned the copyright laws foir downloading, so, it is legal for Canadians to download free music. There are many contries that it is legal in.

  • I've used Limewire for about a year now and I think it's great. It does slow down your system (to put it mildly) but one way to curb that is to limit the bandwidth that it has available to it for downloading/uploading. When it's set to 100% I pretty much have to find something else to do, but if I cut it back some then it's not as bad. Still not great, but I can read email and other smaller stuff.

I definitely stay away from all warez sites, even now with Firefox. I learned the hard way . I went to a site looking for an MP3 back before Napster came out and as if the redirects weren't enough I got a shitload of popups and all other crap get dumped into my system including some kind of virus. But all's good now

If you like warez then more power to ya. Knock yerself out kiddo :D

i've used limewire. i still have it on my computer but very rarely turn it on/open it up...

it does suck a lotof resources as others have said. i found a few things i couldn't find other places (like the video of ed and mike doing masters of war at bob dylan's birthday, fear's original version of of 'let's have a war' and some tool videos) and if you see a real shitty video like nelly's 'grillz' on tv and then later want to share the absurdity w/ your g/f you can find it on limewire :D

mainly i use DC++ and bit torrents

what is soulseek? ive got a new mac and want some sort of filesharing program. limewire usually had everything i wanted, but it was a big drain on a mac's resources for some reason. much worse than when i ran it on my pc. is soulseek better for a mac?
