Instant Messenging Programes

Is there a way you can communicate between programes without having to have all of them on your computer?

I'm on Windows Live Messenger and I've had friends on Yahoo able to instant message me. I just want to know if I want to talk to someone via IM who's on AOL do I have to go to all the trouble of downloading that program into my computer as well or is there a way to hook em up somehow? :)

Oh and I apologize to everyone reading this in advance, well except for cutback :p , if it sounds dumb. :D It's a well established fact that I am a computer moron. :D

    There's also Trillian (http://www.trillian.cc)

    You can log on MSN, Yahoo, AIM, ICQ and IRC.. or multiple accounts of any of those programs at the same time.

    I've been using this program for years, and I don't have any problems with it at all. I suggest it if you have more than one messenger constantly running at the same time. I don't personally care about this, but other people do.. with the basic version of Trillian I don't think you can use a webcam or view one, but if you're not into that, then this program should work just fine.

    Oh, and there's also plug-ins and skins you can download, I haven't checked out the plug-ins but thinking about it, there probably is one for webcams lol.. anyways, I'm using a theme called Dark Bevel right now, I just took a screenshot of the program for you.. it's at

    (I blurred my friends names for privacy reasons.. there were no people logged into my MSN or my Yahoo!, but there were two groups of AIM buddies logged on, where it says "Novacaine Contacts" and "AIM"... that's how all the messengers are categorized)



    ----EDIT: by the way, I'm still running XP, I liked the look of Vista, but it's still too buggy for me, so I found a nice little program to make my XP look like I'm running Vista :D----

    One of my friends downloaded the Trillian today and we were able to chat, which was awesome, so now I'm going to give it a go myself in a quiet moment. :) I'll let you know how I go. Bear in mind, I'm a computer moron. :D
