Trying to remove crowd noise from a song

Hi all

I have absolutely no technical skill whatsoever, so I have turned to the experts.

I was wondering if it was possible to take a song from either a cd or a file on the computer, which was, say, from a concert, and resave it without the crowd???

Not sure if it is possible or if there is certain software I need, so any help or guidance is much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

    No, not completely.
If you have a good sound-editing program you can tweak it a bit to bring out the music more, but it takes some doing, especially if it's a bootleg.

I have had some success removing crowd noises from tracks using Cool Edit.
You simply highlight a sample of the crowd noise on the track and then ask that it be deleted for the whole track. It won't remove everything, but if you're pedantic and precise, you could also use the package to "splice" out other little bits that remain.
It's time consuming and not precise but it can make a difference. :)
    NOPE!!!

Thank you all for your help

I will try with everyones ideas and see how we go.

I was asking this coz I wanted to (try and) have the song Picture In a Frame that Eddie sang at Brisbane for the cake-cutting at my wedding at the end of October, and thought it would be a cool song to have since its only a short song.

    Cant wait to try

    Thanks again

Well for my two bobs worth, the cool edit is easier to use than the pro tools.
I mean I studied that stuff at uni and I still don't get it! :o but cool edit is very easy to get proficient in the use of fairly quickly. not that I'm any expert, but that's the one I'd be wanting to play with. :)

If you like, you could pm me and if we exchanged emails addy's and you emailed me the song I could give it a go for you?

oh! and I believe you can download a trial version of cool edit off the internet that would do the trick, least you used to be able to, so maybe see if you can before you fork out $$$$. :)

    Good luck with it. :)

I have CoolEdit as well, but Syntrillium was sold to Adobe or some such shit and I think it was discontinued.

Editing with Cakewalk and Sound Forge might work too
