I switched over a few nights ago, but now I'm getting errors and it's closing on me, and no matter what I have it set to, the new windows come up as tabs. I swear I have it set to new window and not new tab! I'm getting a little annoyed.

IE7 isn't bad if you're forced to use it(as I am). I can't wait for the next updated Firefox though. Why don't you turn off the auto update notice? Or do you like it?

Try this. Open a new tab (or window) and in the address bar type about:config. From there you can see all the settings and perhaps you can find what's wrong. I've had FF 2.0 installed since it came out and have had no probs on 3 computers.

For a couple days last week my Firefox 2.0 also kept erroring out on me and wanted to restart. No matter if i restored my previous session or started a new one...it kept happening. Though the problem has stopped now. And this was only on my laptop.
Hmmm, it is a laptop so I've restarted a few times. I'm at work now, but I'll try cutback's suggestion when I get home. I was annoyed, but not enough to change it. I still love Firefox.

Note that you can no longer deny third party cookies in Firefox 2 unlike previous versions. This is a serious security/privacy downgrade IMHO.
You can do it manually: about:config
Third party cookies track you across the internet via ad banners etc. Even if you block the direct cookies from the site you are on. 2.0 either blocks all or lets them through. Blocking third party cookies is always a good idea. Direct cookies are generally needed for site like the TenClub store.
In Safari you can select to opt out of third party cookies in the "Security Tab."
It is still rated better than IE and should run fine with the final release of vista. If you are running a development version of vista or pre-release you are running a lot of debug code too.
Another Vista note: Invest in 64 bit architecture. 32 bit is becoming obsolete and MS's ability to protect and secure it will degrade.

I won't run it on vista until it's available which they said it won't be until the next update. But I'll try the other fix first.
Btw, was this a copy and paste?

I'm using my new computer (that I built and have MANY frustrating stories about compatibility with DDR2, message me If you want to hear them. although they can never compare to the frustration of giving my old pc away and just 3 DAYS LATER, my Mac breaks down) and I'm using Windows Professional x64 and when Vista is released I am upgrading to Vista Ultimate. Also, I am using a top-of-the-line comp now and it turned out to be a blessing in disguise, if you want the names, links, prices, and final price of the new comp just message me,
P.S.: I am using AMD and not Intel...because I personally believe that AMD is better.
So I went to download it for vista, but in reading the release notes it said it has issues when not set as the default browser...then in a later note it said you cannot set it as the default browser in Vista. ha. I think that's supposed to be fixed tonight....but we'll see!!!!

I may be one of the few that can't stand Firefox. I gave it a 2-year run, and even installed 2.0 last week when it notified me of the update. I have fewer crashes and better browsing speed with the old IE 6. So I uninstalled Firefox for good, finally, that same day.

That's interesting. I've had nothing but success with FF. And on 3 different computers. I'll never go back to IE.

That's what everybody tells me! That's why I kept it trying for so long. I like some of the plug-ins and add-ons you can get with it, but it just isn't worth all the hassles I've had with it.

I HAD nothing but success with it until I upgraded to the 2.0...now it crashes quite a bit. I just installed that latest update on my xp machine so hopefully no more crashes. i still won't ever go back to IE. If I have any other issues I'll just use another browser, but for now I'll keep firefox. I just want it to be compatible with vista!!!!!!!!!!

Well, consider yourself lucky that you even had the sense to switch from IE. I've spoken to people who have said "What's wrong with IE, it just starts you up?" and meant it...
Alright. Maybe somebody here can help me concerning FF. I did a format a week or so ago, and did a clean install of XP Pro. I decided not to install FF this time, but I may want to try it again. One problem I saw in FF with the XP was with Java. The Java is current and works fine with IE.
Maybe there's somebody who knows something about this. I googled around a bit, maybe not enough, and there were some sites that semi-addressed the issue, but not in my language.

I never bothered with the java issue before. Heh. Otherwise I'd help. Hopefully I'll do it when I use it for Vista.

I finally loaded it on vista. It works well so far. I've only had to deal with the shakiness once. I haven't set it as default yet, as the release notes said there were some problems with it. I guess we'll wait and see!

that's why almost none of the harwdware manufacturers have drivers for a 64-bit architecture.
And most programs are still written for 32 bit, so you have almost no performance gain.
