OK - I live in South Korea and recently bought a laptop computer. When I first bought it it had all korean windows and supporting software. Before I changed the windows, I had no problem playing DVD's. I've since installed an english version of windows, and for some reasond DVD's won't play because apparently I don't have a "dvd decoder"... help? Where can I get one for free? no luck googleing it... just a bunch of dead links and pay sites. This pisses me off considerring I've paid $1500 for a laptop and I can't even play DVD's.... anybody know anything about this stuff?

dvd's are coded into five regions.....american dvd's don't play in korea and vice versa....that could be your problem.
  • ya but isn't it possible to change your region a certain amount of times before it's locked? (i've heard 3 times?)

yeah ive heard that, im not too sure on how many times it is

i goto http://www.doom9.org if its anything DVD related (eocoding/decoding DVD -wise)

i just done a quick search and i found this:

DVD Genie 4.10 - can set the region for almost any DVD software player

    http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Regionfree/dvdgn410.exe

just right click save Link as (or Save Target as if you use internet explorer)
We did not change as we grew older; we just became more clearly ourselves.

I asked her and she said it wasn't the dvd burning software, it was region free software she downloaded from http://www.dvd43.com.
    Hope that helps you man
  • Thanks - I'll give it a whirl and let you know how it turns out... my other problem is I'm about as computer literate as your typical 75 year old grandmother. :)
  • if it's a dvd decoder you need, it's something different than what everyone else is talking about. A DVD Decoder is a program that actually physically reads the DVD and decodes the DVD to the computer.

If you need one, you might have to find one on a torrent site because it comes installed with windows.
  • Thanks,
I've since purchased one online from Microsoft.. I guess it didn't come installed with windows on my computer for some reason
