Ipod Question - Can you move files (not synch) from more than one PC?

I just bought the latest & greatest Ipod (the new 80GB model), and I easily & successfully synched it up with my home laptop. All files transferred, no problems.

However, I have anotehr laptop at work that has songs (different ones) on it as well. I understand that any individual Ipod cannot synch with two different PCs's, but is it possible to be initially synched with one PC, and later transfer songs from a 2nd PC to the same Ipod (later to be synched with the initial home PC)?

  • Fanchman!! I can't believe I am giving tech advice!

    Ok, here's the answer:

    I don't know. :D

All I know is that you want to make yours NOT automatically synch or you'll lose everything on your Ipod that you DO have when you synch to another one. You want to manually synch stuff.
What worked for me was buying a separate hard drive and using that to store the music on, because I have maybe 120 gigs worth of CD's. Then you can download to the hard drive at work, then upload to your home computer,,, THEN stick them in your I-pod.

Or make a DVD or CD of the music at work and stick it in at home.

Other than that,,,, haha,,, I'm useless!

I'm a novice Ipod user - but yes.

Change your settings on Itunes NOT to automatically Sync.

I've got a lot of music from my brother-in-law's computer, and more from my computer.

To take it a step further - I added music TO my computer FROM my ipod using a program I bought online called Anapod. It's a little complicated, but it does the job - it kinda treats your ipod as an external HD.

I don't have any advice how to do it - but I've done it and it wasnt super hard.
ADD 5,200 to the post count you see, thank you. :)

So, I did it by accident the first time I got my shuffle. Don't install itunes on the second PC. Wait for your PC to install it as a USB device when you plug it in. Open it, once it's installed and drag and drop your files. You can't play them from the ipod, but you can transport them to another PC! Dump 'em there, sync it and you're good to go!

That's how I did it anyhow.

    Thank all of you, gentlemen.

I don't have an iPod, though. I have a fanchPod.
