Alternate Message Pit search function

Not happy with the fairly inadequate search function on the Message Pit (or any website for that matter)? You can use Google to search the board instead. Here's why it's a good idea...and how to do it:

Say you want to find out if that hot picture of Eddie you have a link to has already been posted. For our example, we'll use the following link which was posted in this thread:

Example link: [noparse]http://pearljam.com/i/tourphotos/20061119/2.jpg[/noparse].

Using the regular board search function (http://forums.pearljam.com/search.php), you get the following message:

Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms.

The following words are either very common, too long, or too short and were not included in your search : [noparse]http://pearljam.com/i/tourphotos/20061119/2.jpg[/noparse]

So you think it's not been posted and create another post about it. However, if you go to Google and search using the search syntax below, you will find that it has been posted.

[noparse]http://pearljam.com/i/tourphotos/20061119/2.jpg site[/noparse]:[noparse]http://forums.pearljam.com[/noparse]

Here's the results on Google: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&rls=com.microsoft%3A*&q=http%3A%2F%2Fpearljam.com%2Fi%2Ftourphotos%2F20061119%2F2.jpg+site%3Ahttp%3A%2F%2Fforums.pearljam.com%2F&btnG=Search

So the way it works is to submit a search on Google with the following information:

"desired text to search for" site:"desired site to search"
