Finally got a DVR hooked up. Recorded a few movies off HBO and they ONLY Play in the machine I recorded them with!!! WTH is that about?

It is not a cable box--it is a separate unit I bought. I though you could just copy movies like the old VCR way.

Oh, I think I misunderstood your original question then.
I should mention that I am a technotard, so really am probably the last person that should be replying anyway.
1 buy a recordable dvd machine
2 if you have a dv camcorder you can record to that
dvr's weren't designed to archive record....just record things you don't have time to watch
i am not technically-savvy.
but i DO have skills!!!
