DVR Question

from a dummy. I hope someone can answer (tim?? ;).

Finally got a DVR hooked up. Recorded a few movies off HBO and they ONLY Play in the machine I recorded them with!!! WTH is that about?
So I'll just lie down and wait for the dream

    I think it's kind of like a video tape recorder. You only recorded/taped it on that machine, so it is only stored on that machine, and will only replay on that machine.

    I can't wait for the day it's like an internet app and can be accessed from anywhere you have a box under your account. I have two cable boxes but only one is a DVR.....I feel ya.....but did you really not know?

    I REALLY did not know.

    It is not a cable box--it is a separate unit I bought. I though you could just copy movies like the old VCR way.

    Oh, I think I misunderstood your original question then.

    I should mention that I am a technotard, so really am probably the last person that should be replying anyway. :)

    2 things you can do

    1 buy a recordable dvd machine

    2 if you have a dv camcorder you can record to that

    dvr's weren't designed to archive record....just record things you don't have time to watch
