my g/f has windows XP on her computer, my computer has 2000 on it...recently i had to reinstall windows on her computer and used the restore discs the manufacturer gave...but since there were some hardware changes to the computer it kept locking up during hte setup process in the 'out of box experience' part.

i found a workaround by booting into vga mode and hitting cancel, which bypassed the OOBE segment and went to a regualr windows setup and i was able to get it fixed

so, my question is could i do this same thing and install XP on my computer? i didn't want to try b/c the restore cd said it had to wipe the c drive and i don't want to have ot reinstall 2000 and the drivers and all the programs i had for nothing.
