The Rocky Movies

These were some of my favorite all time films. But a couple things confused me, In the first Rocky when Rocky was knocked down, Mick pleaded to him "Down down stay down"

Why did he say that? Was it to prevent him from getting seriously injured? And at the end of the bout Apollo say "There ain't gonna be no rematch" Why did he say that when in the second film he couldn't wait until he got Rocky back into the ring?

Mick told him to stay down because of fear of injury.

Apollo told Rocky no rematch i guess because the fight was such a war. then in the hospital ...well, Apollo is just very cocky and a loud.

In the beginning of the second film, Apollo talks about how his kids are teased at school because their Dad is afraid of a rematch.

That's what pushed Apollo over the edge.

I think it's clear that Adrian has poor self-esteem. That is, she is very unsure of herself. This may have been due to unsupportive and/or emotionally abusive parents.

Also, it may be from the way her brother treated her all those years. Throughout the Rocky series, we see that Paulie treats Adrian in a very demeaning and abusive manner.

This type of environment may have shaped her views into views that were negative and defeatist-like.

So, when she sees Rocky trying to pursue his dream of boxing greatness at any cost, Adrian reacts in the only way she knows how to react: with unhibited negativity.

In a time when Rocky needs massive boosts of self-confidence, Adrian comes up short because self-confidence is an emotion with which she could not be less familiar. Her world is controlled by hopelessness and fear, and those feelings are all that she has to offer.

Nobody dreamed that the first movie was going to be such a success....thus no sequels were originally planned.

Too bad...it could have saved us from Tommy "Machine" Gunn.

    LMAO :D
I always found it funny that Rocky gets diagnosed with brain damage in Rocky V, even though he's more coherent in that movie than what he was in the original Rocky :D

I and II were fantastic movies. III and IV were great, but more so on the action rather than the entirety of the movies. I and II had better writing.

The last one was a lot better than I thought it would be.

V was god awful. I am glad they ended it on a step up from that one.

My biggest problem was with the boxing (well, the acting wasn't great, but...). Had Sly ever actually watched a boxing match before? Worst pretend boxing match ever staged. Good lord, do some research Stallone.

What are you trying to say...you can't take those punches that sound like a 4-by-4 hitting a wall ?

haha. And they each took about 1,000 shots that would cripple or kill any fighter. Did Stallone realize that boxers actually attempt and successfully block punches as well? Or at least dodge one now and then...

Rocky V bothers me, mostly because their kid aged about five years during their time in Russia, that really kills the movie. It had good potential with Rocky becoming brain damaged and not being able to fight anymore, but it went downhill from there. Also for whatever reason the acting itself seemed to have suffered, it was lame.

That's how tough Rocky is...he is no mere mortal

I still get chills when Rocky says "Adrian..I did it!"

I liked Rocky IV, when he was training hardcore up in the mountains. That was cool.

  • I was watching Rocky V with my cousin last week and at the end when rocky is fighting Tommy Gunn in the street he is getting his ass kicked then rocky goes into this strange acid like flashback and my cousin jokingly said it was a synopsis of all the movies in that 2-3 minute flashback. Just thought that was funny.
