Maybe if it was an original song written specifically for something the band really supported, like some new clean energy product or such, it would be o.k. but to take one of their exisitng arrangements and distort the meaning by associating it with some purely commercial venture wouldn't be cool.
I agree. IF they HAD to sell out, don't use an existing song, which tugs at our heart strings one way or another. Create a new song, so it has no ties.

I believe that they have the rights to do with their music whatever they want.
I wouldn't like it (I think that kind of things take away something from the song, unless the song is written for the product in the first place), especially if it would be for a meaningless product, but I wouldn't point fingers. It's a damn hard thing to live up to your ideals 24/7, when you cannot get out of the system....out of this consumerism oriented world.
The worst enemies of music? Money and Mathematics. Combined with music, they both do the exact opposite of what they're supposed to do. Money makes music cheap, mathematics makes it stupid and predictable.
